Mushrooms aren't plants, so their inclusion in the grass tree is a bit of a misnomer.

Grass-type itself is a misnomer. It should be "plant type" shouldn't it?

And spiders aren't bugs
And fish aren't made of water
And magnets aren't electricity

Grass type is the closest thing to fungus and mushrooms were once considered plants so who cares, it's not that deep.

if mushrooms weren't grass type, the fuck would they even be classified as?

If we want to be this autistic, then the supercategory should be called "electromagnetic". And then you would have to include Fire Types to some degree as well, because infrared wavelengths are also electromagnetic in nature.

>>57995649
And copper (Bronzor and Cufant lines) and gold (Gholdengo) aren't steel. So Steel Types should be actually "Metal Types".

I wouldn't get this nitpicky. I actually like the misconception, as you - ironically - get to better know some concepts associated with a type.

Mushrooms grow alongside GRASS, just like fish live in WATER and birds FLY.
Where is your autism god now op?

Bug is a colloquial term for many invertebrates not just insects. Spiders are usually considered bugs. The type is not called "true bugs" or "insect" after all.
Also electromagnets are a thing.

Look at all the spider Pokemon and all of them have 6 legs, making them true insects. The only one who doesn’t is spidops

Spiders aren't insects, but they are bugs. Bug is a colloquial term for any sort of "creepy crawlie" such as insects, spiders, snails, worms and centipedes

I've seen some say that Grass should be split to become two separate Types.

Anyway, the mushroom Pokémon still fit the general themes of the Grass Type.

My guess is because at the time, all of the metal Pokemon could logically be made of steel.
>Magnemite, Magneton, Forretress, Steelix, Scizor, and Skarmory
Either that or they were like "how can we make this new type sound like a strong one? Let's call it the name of a strong metal."

>>57996155
>or they were like "how can we make this new type sound like a strong one? Let's call it the name of a strong metal."
Probably this. There are various metals with properties you wouldn't associate as tough or strong. Like the alkaline metals.

From what I could gather, these metals from the periodic system of elements have been so far featured in Pokémon:
>Iron (or as an alloy: Steel)
>Gold
>Copper
>Tin (Bronzor line, bronze is a cooper and tin alloy)
>Gallium (Meltan line)
>Aluminium (Duraludon line, based on duralumin, an aluminium-copper alloy)
Other metals could exist within alloys a steel type could be made of.

It's an old, obsolete classification.

It's the same reason Blastoice is the Shellfish Pokémon. In Japanese, they use an old Chinese classification that separated all aquatic animals with shells (clams, crabs, snails, turtles) intended for human consumption. This was poorly translated into English. A more correct term would be Water Shell Pokémon or simply Shell Pokémon.

This is also the case with Bug type, the scientific term only refers to certain hemipterans, informally in medicine it refers to certain pathogens, in computing to software errors, but the old jargon means all kinds of crawling creatures such as spiders, centipedes, land isopods, snails, worms, insects, even sometimes small lizards and frogs are included.

Watching the recent JW film, I realize that they also make the mistake several times of mixing pterosaurs and mosasaurs with the term dinosaur.

It's more painful to hear when the paleontologist of the group says it.

Could be neat but really there's just not enough steel types representing specific metals for those to warrant their own spinoff typings
And mechanically they'd probably just be steel with one or two typechart interactions changed apiece
So it'd honestly be better off to have Steel used as a catchall for metallic pokemon

Agree.

Theoretically speaking, the double typing could be representative for an alloy in a symbolic sense. That's basically what alloys are, have a base metal and add additives which improve (or decrease) certain traits.
