What do you use as criteria to define your gen fandom?
>game released closest to yout birth year
>game you first played through whatever means
>game you first played through console
>game released when you were beteeen 6 and 9, regardless of not playing the games back then

which definition is the correct one? Come on, /b/ros, scratch that autistic itch for me.

Gen Stadium here, Champions is looking like a complete disgrace to the battle sim line even more than PBR.

As someone who started with gen 3, I think gen 7 really stuck with me the most. The atmosphere in that game was pretty top notch, though I know I can never play it again or the cutscenes will destroy my fond memories

>Game closest to my birth year
2001, so Crystal. (My birthday's in August too, so my Nintendo Power cover for my birth month is Pokemon Crystal, sick as hell.)
>Game played through first
HeartGold
>game you first played through console
??? I guess DS since my first game was HG
>game released when you were 6-9 regardless of having played them at that time
DP, Platinum.
Most of my childhood memories are of Gen 4, with board games like Pokemon Champion Island, or the DP era TCG sets. After getting into the main series I played spin offs like PMD2 and PBR as well. I specifically remember in elementary school that everyone was talking about and hyping up the release of Rise of Darkrai but I do have some very foggy memories of Gen 3. Specifically, my first Pokemon related memory was watching the episode AG027 "A Three Team Scheme" on my living room TV because Keanu's Nincada stuck with me and I remembered the secret base plot as well as spotting older kids using the colorful translucent cartridges. My personal favorite Gen is Gen 3 but I've had a complete set of Main Series pokemon games and a lot of the spin offs since I was in high school, so I don't really think I have a "home generation." Started with Gen 4 remakes of Gen 2, much more knowledgable and experienced on Gen 3, emulated the first couple generations in middle school on my phone before getting a Game Boy in HS, played a lot of Gen 5, 6, and 7 when they were new. Really I grew up with em all, just at different points in my childhood/adolescence.

This. Ruby was my first game, but the stretch from 2008-2012 was easily the best time to be a fan of the franchise.

>so my Nintendo Power cover for my birth month is Pokemon Crystal
Turns out mine is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. Neat.

idk man, i like some gens and i don't like others. probably i would feel more fondly towards one of the ones i don't like if it had been my first exposure to the series, but that's about the only thing i could imagine changing things

I'm glad if nothing else my post inspired someone else to find what their Nintendo Power cover is. Always fun to see what game you got for your month's cover. Sometimes you get some weird covers. My GF got WWF Wrestlemania 2000 with fuckin Mick Foley in that leather mask on the cover. She wasn't too pleased lol.
