Are most folks AWARE they've given every new species of Pokemon their own brand new exclusive ability/move since Gen 7? Seems like most people are unaware of this........

The caveats are as follows:

>I only know for sure that Gens 7&8 do this. I do believe Gen 9 does it/almost does it, but I don't care to check.
>it's counted by new Pokemon FAMILIES. So Vikavolt has nothing new itself, but Charjabug has Battery so it does count. Lycanroc Midnight has nothing, but Day gets Accelerock. Also the Ultra Beasts are considered one "family" group for this, they all have Beast Boost.
>It is true of literally EVERY Gen 7 new family of Pokemon. And it's been so long I can't recall, but I know for sure that for Gen 8 it's either also 100% of all of them, or they messed up slightly and it's only like 95%, but the attempt was still obvious. I don't recall.
>They also seem to originally have planned it for the Gen 7 regional forms (Aurora Veil, Shadow Bone, Dragon Hammer...) but they gave up on regional forms all having their own exclusive thing in the final game

if we theorize what this could be like with later gen moves potentially ending up as signature moves in earlier generations
then alolan sandshrew should have gotten ice spinner as its signature move
its moon dex entry specifically mention it spinning
>An ancient tradition of Alolan festivals, still carried on to this day, is a competition to slide Sandshrew across ice as far as one can.
it'd also mean alolan sandslash would have a consistent ice STAB move that's slightly stronger than icicle crash (which after factoring in accuracy, has a base power of 76.5 (85 x 95% = 76.5) and stronger than icicle spear on average (which has an average power of 77.5), and it'd probably have a terrain destroying niche too

also I have no fucking idea why lycanroc's day form is the only one to get accelerock out of the pair, when the night form gets FUCKING COUNTER instead

Will check out later but very interesting if true. I guess they want their mons to feel unique but this should be a warning sign, giving away candy bags to every line is not the way to do it

I noticed that during Gen 7's reveal season. I saw every Pokémon they were announcing had a new ability/move and realized "OK, this is how it's going to be now." I think the exact trailer it hit me was Tsareena's when I saw Queenly Majesty and Trop Kick. It's not too bad but I do wish they would make them timed-exclusives more often. There's a lot of Pokémon that could use some buffs like that.
