In Japanese, Girafarig is "Kirinriki," which comes from the words for "giraffe" and "telekinesis," and is also a palindrome when written in kana (キリンリキ), which is why it has a head on either side.
Farigiraf's Japanese name is "Rikikirin," which has the same meaning but is no longer a palindrome when written in kana (リキキリン), reflecting the fact that it no longer has a head on either side. This unfortunately was lost in English, as "Farigiraf" is still a palindrome. Unfortunately, I cannot think of a better name for either Pokémon that keeps the original meaning.
I like Girafarig, but it really is one of those Pokémon built around a joke that only works in Japanese.
