it's a defensive liability that gives it nothing except STAB head smash and it's pretty much certain that it'll always be outclassed in that specific niche by hisuian arcanine (which is faster, specially bulkier, and slightly harder hitting) so it's not really worth keeping a rock sub-typing for

Yeah Rock Type single-handily drags Aggron down several tiers. The easiest solution would be giving it Earth Eater, although if you want to go the extra mile I made a big Aggron gameplay overhaul a while back with a new move and ability that halves damage taken if it only has attacking moves.
