I was the intended audience for this moment and I was pissed off when he didn't actually have my name or my team, he just felt like some retard impostor that nullified my own guy's existence and I was relieved they never tried to do it again with another protagonist, ever.

Zoomers never had a real Pokemon experience
They play the game already have read walkthroughs, youtubers let's play and having full knowledge of the Pokedex on the Internet
It took me a month after beating the E4 in Crystal to learn that you can continue in Kanto. And I didn't have a clue what awaited me on the journey. Zoomers will never know how this feel

But I played HGSS. Even if I kinda knew by that point through the advent of the internet, it still surprised me when I actually fought him for the first time. And I fought him in GSC as well and it was just as kino

Fuck yeah, that's the classic Pokemon experience. I got into it from these pull out strategy guides in Nintendo Power my local library had, way before we ever picked up the games.

Not exactly a month in my case, but I had the same experience where it was an amazing revelation to be able to continue to the previous region. The people replying to you negatively will never know what that feels like because they're flooded with info at their fingertips that limits the height of their own self-discovery and the joy that comes with.

what a pity. thank god HGSS preserved most of its shittiness and they got to experience that slop instead.

Yeah actually what the hell? The "internet didn't exist"? In the year 1999? Where everyone and their mother was getting AOL dial up, and guides were fucking everywhere, from Angelfire to Geocities, and also GameFAQs was around? The year 2000 saw 43.1% of the US population online.

Zoomers will never have authentic unmediated connection to the art they consume, it will always be refracted through youtube video essays and influencers. They will never organically create their own impressions without the lens of others. Sad!

It was slightly less cool for me because his team only had 1 pokemon in common with my game, and because I had used the default name of Red for my rival back then so the guy I was used to being called Red was Blue.

Still got what they were going for though. I can only imagine what some kid who played through yellow and had a near identical team would have thought of it. It really was a special moment in gaming.

Are you actually retarded? The funniest part is that you had 0 friends that you exchanged information with about the games, because then it wouldn't have taken you that long to figure that out. Sounds like (You) didn't even get the peak Pokemon experience despite living the best era for it.
