I find it interesting how, out of all the designated Local Act Pokémon (https://local.pokemon.jp/en/), there are only two without some kind of special treatment in the games.

>Geodude, Vulpix, Slowpoke, Exeggutor, Growlithe, Sandshrew, Oshawott (as Samurott), and Quagsire all have regional variants

>Ampharos has a Mega and Lapras has a Gigantamax

That just leaves Chansey and Dragonite without anything to their name. And, if the recent rumors are true, then Dragonite is getting a Mega... is Chansey getting something next? Or do its two cross-generation evolutions already count as it getting special treatment?

Interested to see which Pokémon they nominate as local candidates next.

Chansey and Dragonite are well known for being benevolent Pokemon, so they're suitable for this kind of thing.

Chansey got special treatement in an evolution, and Dragonite was the only dragon pokemon for a bit.

The disproportionate amount of Gen 1 Pokémon is quite disappointing.

Not surprising though lol. They're trying to bolster tourism, and until the Millennials are dead and buried then gen 1 will easily be the most recognizable generation to normies. It's kind of a wonder that two Alolan variants even made it in.

yeah, but Dragonite for the prefecture that's all about dragons and Chansey because of its "lucky properties" don't really make sense.

The only justification for Dragonite I can find is because its prefecture is also known for a lot of food production, and Dragonite is very fat.

part of it is that Gen 1 pokemon were simply around the longest so it makes sense to consider them first, Also the earlier gens are the ones that draw the most from Japan so they'll most likely to be fitting reps for a Japanese places
the real shocker is that Oshawott made it, and that CHARIZARD somehow didn't yet

why doss dragonite being the first dragon type make it a fit for the prefecture more so than the first mono-dragon type, Haxorus?

I’m disappointed they didn’t go with this and give it .png hands like they did with Geodude’s feet.

That does make sense, but where are the Gen 3 and 4 Pokémon?

How did Oshawott get a mascot before Piplup? Don’t the japs really love the penguin?

>Appointed in December 2021, Oshawott is now the Support Pokémon of Mie Prefecture. The Japanese characters for Mie can also be read “Mijuu,” which fits with Oshawott’s Japanese name, “Mijumaru.” The yellow seashell Oshawott carries on its stomach, known as a “scalchop,” calls to mind Mie’s bountiful shellfish, including oysters like the Akoya pearl oyster. This makes Oshawott the perfect Pokémon to represent and support Mie Prefecture. Going forward, Mie Prefecture and Oshawott will be working together to showcase the very best of Mie for you to discover.
