The main issue with Digimon games is that the genres vary so wildly despite all being mainline. You like one mainline game, chances are you'd like most mainline Pokemon games. Genre shifts are usually left to spin-offs/other developers. You liking Digimon World 1 by no means mean that you will like Digimon World 4 or Cyber Sleuth or Survive or any of the other dozen genres that mainline Digimon games consist of

The only good ones are glorified visual novels, and we all know how divisive Gen 7 is in this fandom. The vast bulk of the game is the grind. Which wouldn't be so bad if there was some variation in it like Pokemon. Otherwise, absolutely everything learns they same fucking shit. The only variety is their signature attacks, which aren't even worth using half the time, so they're just wasting space. Not to mention you can easily get all your coverage on one mon, but my god is the grind mind numbingly tedious with all the evolving and devolving to get the moves you want. SMT does it way better with their fusion mechanic, which is also a lot more fun. Seriously, despite all the shit we give it, there's a reason Pokemon dominates the market. Their games are just more fun. I have never once wanted to replay a Digimon game. Once you finish the story, you're done.
