I have like 10+ years worth of Gen 3-5 teams, legendaries, and misc Pokémon on my copy of White 2. I have two full odds random encounter shinies in them as well.
I want them to last forever, but I don’t know if I should take them to my Pokémon Home because
A. I migrated once from Crystal to the Bank or Home or something and lost all my Pokémon from that Crystal file for some reason
And B. They would all be on a subscription service rather than my personal belonging.
Is there anyway to back up a White 2 save file using some device? How long will a White 2 cartridge last (since some 3DS cartridges weren’t built to last and are already dying).
What should I do?

Mod a 3DS and there’s programs that can back up DS saves for you. Then you can backup that file wherever and even play it on an emulator if you want.

For the love of all that’s holy, don’t put them on Home. Hell I wouldn’t even transfer anything to gen 6.

How long will the cartridge last? Anyone have any ideas about the other DS cartridges after the 3DS cartridges started failing?

No idea, but if you’re afraid of a far off day where old carts stop working (honestly, fair enough), it’s also possible to dump your game’s rom so you’ve always got a copy. Or you could download the rom from the internet instead.

Mod a 3DS and use Checkpoint to dump the save file to the SD card. Back up the save the same way you would any file you don’t want lost: a mix of multiple local backups and a cloud backup. You can also use PKSM to dump individual Pokemon and inject them to Gen 6-7 games without using Bank if you want.

The DS memory chip that holds saves has a failure rate around 100,000 cycles and a retention period of 20 years if not in use. Every time you load your save or save the game, it is counted as a cycle.

Really? First time I've heard of this. Why would they not work outside of some online thing?

The problem most 3DS cartridges had was a series of bad soldering jobs done at the manufacturing facility, re-soldering the ROM chip fixes the problem.

Not a thing the average zoomie will do. So they are lost.
I am glad though, the games suck anyway :)
