>people grow bored with little content
>”w-wait! don’t go! more to come… soonish!”
Yes. It’s death was a direct consequence of its release strategy.

Majority of these Indie "Pokémon killers" fail because the people behind them dont' get what truly makes Pokémon (or what used to make Pokémon) special. It wasn't about the battle system or the competitive scenario, nor the the multiplayer features, or even the graphics, it was about the journey itself.

Old Pokémon exceeded in immersing the player into a world where they could freely explore at their own pace alongside their monster partners. The regions used to have interesting level design because they were made with backtracking in mind for exploration with new HMs. The maps had mysteries you had to find on your own and puzzles that would lead to new discoveries. The monsters had interesting designs, but they all were mostly clean slates you could imagine any personality for them.

The games followed a consistent timeline, where events from previous installs would be acknowledged in newer installments. This game a strong sense of progression and shared world, something you don't get in Pokémon since Gen 5 because every new gen exist on it's own bubble. There's no point in getting invested in any sort of Pokémon Lore because Game Freak will forget later.

TemTem failed because it put too much emphasis on appealing to youtubers and competitive Pokémon players with the forced multiplayer and 2x2 battle system. The monster and world design were secondary to them. By them this project was dead to any casual Pokémon player who would have otherwise loved a Pokémon clone on their PC.

The Launch was a historic and infamous disaster. I shouldn't even have to mention that.

Stopped reading there. Only Spectrobes was created to try that. Quit projecting that label onto basic competition.

Did anybody actually get into this because they wanted to get into it or because "surely this will kill Pokemon". We will never have a true Pokemon killer as long as the people are looking for one. Playing something out of spite for something else is not conducive for building a lasting fanbase

TemTem, Palworld, Aniimo, you name it---none of them understand how to make good creature designs on the level of Pokemon.

It's so bad I would still take Galar and Paldea's pokedexes, the arguable worst in the series, over the totality of the nu-gen competitors'.
