This would've been great in Platinum if you couldn't battle Fantina like in DP. After beating Wake, the Galactic Grunt would run west with the bomb instead of east and end up at the mansion. You would take these "optional" routes and loop back to Hearthome city where you would battle Fantina fifth like in DP, but without the botched level curve caused by the split.

It's a shame that Game Freak decided to make this section optional a second time for the sake of nerfing Fantina into the ground. She terrorized children in the original because the split made everyone so underleveled.

These are my main gripes with Sinnoh. Look G4 fans, I respect your game, I really do, but whoever thought that Defog, mud pits, and snow holes were good aditions can go suck a big large and fat one.
I know Pokemon is a short RPG, a wagie can finish it in 7 days, and an NEET in 2, but for some reason everytime I replay Sinnoh, I feel I have been travelling way more than the game actually is.

The main path of Route 119 goes in an S-shaped curve, crossing the river multiple times. The landscape switches multiple times, from the vast long grass field, to the rocky riverbank to the forest clearing near the weather institute. There are also multiple optional paths branching off, all accessible with different means (surf, acro bike, waterfall).
The Sinnoh one below it is a bit more linear, but still has a unique enough shape that it doesn't feel like a straight line without being a maze, and also shows a variety of landscapes: a garden to the north, followed by a forest clearing, some hills, bridges, marshland.

Replaying Moon rn and the routes up to Lana's trial feel like glorified corridors. Cramped, samey. Some of the special locations are cool, like Melemele meadow or Brooklet hill, but more so in terms of aesthetics than level design.
When compared to route 119 (in the OP), the entirety of Melemele island minus the two towns felt about the same in size and variety.
I don't hate Alola, I think it has amazing vibes and SM's plot is better than BW's, but the locations feel quite cramped, and the pacing of the game ensuring you move through them at a snail's pace doesn't help.
