Because no monotype starter are significantly less likely to be respected than dual type starters.

Fire/fighting is extremely underrated and barely any examples, but it's still the best type and most fun to play hands down

A second type could mean more or less defensive advantages though. Pure grass is better defensively than Grass/Ice or /Bug.

Technically speaking, wouldn't making only the primary typing have STAB fix this problem? It would require some switching up especially with normal flying types, but then offensively they would be equal and defensively it's a double edged sword that at least keeps all Pokémon feel unique from one another.

Then wouldn't that just make a secondary typing more of a hinderance for most types? Dragon types would gain almost nothing from having a secondary type, having an Ice secondary typing gives you a bunch more weakness for a single resistance, etc...

Do the exact opposite of this and make it so mono types have boost of around 20% to coverage moves

Fpbp. Boring piles of trash that only have one STAB option and stay the exact same as when they started.

Not everything needs a second type
In-game, why would you need a starter pokemon not for their main type?

If Typhosion has a dual type game freak would respect it enough not to write rape libel against it
