To compensate for the awful musicals of the previous game. B2W2 is basically one big apology for BW.

They needed more filler stuff to differentiate BW2 from BW, this being one of them

How did you feel about Contests, the Pokethlon, etc? There was “filler” content before this

They really need to stop forcing making people play the gimmicks. It's always either you're straight up forced to go engage with it, or if you're unfortunate enough to walk into a building, you have to mash A for god knows how long.
I hate that shit, it makes the game devs come off as autistic.

>P.Com: Let’s talk about one new exciting feature, Pokéstar Studios. I’ve played it a little bit and it’s quite different from other experiences I’ve had in a Pokémon game. What was the inspiration for creating this feature?
>Mr. Unno: The main idea behind Pokéstar Studios was to really expand on the expressive visual opportunities of the Pokémon games. Whenever you’re making the game you have to keep track of the reality of the universe and make sure that everything is believable and isn’t something that’s too crazy. Creating a believable reality for the Pokémon universe is very important.
>But, by making movies with your Pokémon and having them star in movies, you can put them in exciting scenarios that aren’t really possible in the reality of the Pokémon universe, such as battling against a giant UFO, traveling with a magnificent wizard, or battling a giant robot. Having these adventures should be very new and exciting for players.
>Another exciting part of Pokéstar Studios is that you follow a script but battle using actual gameplay elements. And by following the script, you learn a lot of basic elements of Pokémon battling in general from making these movies.

As someone who likes most of the side content, I agree that they and their tutorials should stay completely optional it they aren't relevant to the plot. Making them mandatory kills replay value as fast as an Alolan cutscene.

It's sort of a puzzle solving thing. Like PWT is fun but as a team building exercise you only have to do so much work, rentals there are alright but if you're Battle Factory'd out it's not that different than it or the Battle Subway, and Black Tower/White Treehollow are just kind of okay at best as a more map navigation challenge, so it injects a little extra fun into the budget Battle Frontier B2W2 has going on. While the normal endings are just following the script, the cult endings are really where puzzle solving becomes the main thing. The closest thing we've got outside of it is Battle Sims, and while I think the Battle Sims are better the fact that Pokestar Studios exists, works, and is generally fun is a net positive overall. It also has some neat aesthetic flair and occasional mechanically interesting things. About the only bad thing is the mandatory tutorial where you get the worst look at it and also have to sit through actual garbage even as a joke. It's a pace breaker in an otherwise fairly well paced game. Like this one segment is as bad as the entirety of Kalos Route 7, except you have to press the D-pad more instead of mostly holding left to hit the next set of cutscenes and at least Kalos Route 7 doesn't make you go into the Battle Chateau and fight a nothing battle (it does make you go in to the Daycare though which is baffling that they decided to tutorialize it in this game of all of them and then to my knowledge never again despite changing basically nothing in Gen 6 and a lot more in the later games).

They were just giving an example of comparison between two forced things in games.

Zoomers really cannot grasp the concept of having side-content just for fun can they?
