Why does the fire types in HGSS suck? Since growlithe/vulpix can't evolve until Kanto and houndour is only available in Kanto, cyndaquil becomes the most obvious choice

Because they were really proud about stuffing Kanto into GSC thanks to Iwata, which led to the obvious bias of Johto being absolute dogshit for its own new mons. Cyndaquil being quite literally the only new Fire-type you can use until Kanto is just the devs way of telling the player explicitly which starter they should use.

You could get Alan's phone and wait for him to give you a fire stone.

Typhlosion was nerfed way too hard after the damage split and wasn't compensated with thunderbolt. Houndour still isn't found at night in Johto. Slugma still isn't found in Burnt Tower's basement. Entei didn't receive any good moves until the event at the very end of the generation. Make Magby a rare pokemon found in Dark Cave. All these issues are easily fixed with a simple romhack.

Ho-Oh is fantastic

What is it with people and their inability to play a game that doesn't have five early/mid game Fire lines? It's retarded. Nobody ever says this for Ghost and Dragon-types. It can't just be about trying to have every type on one team either, because 6 Pokémon = 12 types at most, and there are 15-18 types in all. You're always going to be short, and yet it doesn't matter because Pokémon is piss easy and you can roll through the game with your starter. You don't need to minmax or have every single type advantage, it's a game made for little Timmy, who has never played a video game before, to beat. You want to talk about battle facilities? Almost always post-game and when they're not, they should be because you need to make a separate post-game team that's trained a specific way and has been autistically bred. Use Meganium, Furret, Noctowl, Ledian, Dunsparce, and whatever else and you'll still win. Overlevel your Meganium and you'll sweep everything. Jesus Christ.

>>58020019
Iwata took up more space for faster battle loading, not less. Kanto was going to be in no matter what.

You specifically mention HGSS so I'll call you a cock-loving, lying ,faggot because evolution stones are easily available in Pokeathlon. Also there's Safari Zone where you can obtain Houndour, but I'll agree that it may be bit finnicky to use and most players will never bother with it.

Vulpix learns flamethrower when you catch it, can be evolved instantly with little to no penalty, and can be taught sunny day for a fast sun nuke, but it's found late and fire types really struggle in Hoenn's late game. It DOES, however, absolutely shit on Steven in RS by turning Skarmory into setup fodder and forcing Metagross out early only to be outsped one shotted regardless of being underleveles or not.

Oh, I just remembered Ponyta appears in routes before you reach the Elite 4, so that also counts as before post game

>>58020241
>Also there's Safari Zone where you can obtain Houndour
Houndoom only appears there after you beat the Elite 4, even when using the Pokewalker the course it appears only appears after beating the Elite 4, why they did this I don't know.

...Yes, and? Used my Vulpix in the radio tower against Archer and Team Rocket and it battled against Lance. Still won, didn't even know it could evolve it and was actually disappointed when I saw Ninetales at the Lake of Rage in a trainer fight the yellow fur looks so bad. Vulpix sprite just fits way better next to my trainer

Imagine having access to Houndoom during the midgame, one of the greatest in-game mons of all time, a mon that is so good that it had to be removed in PLA to encourage people to use Hisuian Arcanine, but still complain about fire types.

Fuck it, let's look at availability in Johto and Hoenn, two regions no one complains about fire types in:
>Johto
Growlithe
Vulpix
Flareon
Magby/Magmar
Entei
Vulpix is exclusive to Silver, Magmar doesn't appear in Crystal, and Magby must be hatched from the odd egg. Entei is a roaming legend and requires you to grind money or coins for a fire move that's stronger than ember. GSC Flareon is....awful. For most people in Crystal, Growlithe is the only option. Ponyta doesn't count because it's not found until you set foot into Kanto
>Hoenn
Slugma
Numel
Torkoal
Vulpix
Better selection on the surface, but no one ever picks Slugma (don't lie, the five people who used Slugma only did so for the sake of being that guy who used it) because it's one of the worst pokemon of all time and Vulpix is found so late that most people have already finished their teams by then. It's a shame it's so overlooked when you get the sunny day TM right before catching it. While not as good as Growlithe and Houndoom, Numel and Torkoal are still quite solid. Castform is a meme

Now we look at Platinum. Rapidash is okay as usual, Houndoom is an elite fire type, and Magmar is still great even without evolving since it has good mixed stats without sacrificing speed and can learn thunder punch. Even Flareon, while not very good, is still much better than in gen 2 and FRLG since you can teach it flametheower without any issues. This is not a bad lineup. It's not as good as RBY's selection or BW2's bloatfest, but you're given an okay option, a great option, a god tier option, and the flamethrower TM without any issues in Platinum.

It's better, Fire Punch Move Tutor is way earlier in Sinnoh, Flamethrower TMs and the Fire stone aren't obnoxious to obtain, and Houdoom or Magmortar put in way more work.

Even if this was true, two things. Sinnoh is a cold mountain region. It makes sense that fire types are scarce. There is nothing wrong with flavor and that goes for Johto as well. Second it's not like the games are hard to play. Make Magcargo or Vulpix work, or catch Entei.

just get a magby from the pokéwalker, it carries the whole game - especially if you can get psychic on it it's an easy E4 MVP
