I really don't get the whole "your character's gender should match your own" argument, but I also don't get the whole self-inserting thing either, so that might have something to do with it.
I also think it's a dumb choice to lock the rival character to the opposite gender; I'd much rather have multiple rivals as opposed to just one (though I suppose that could still happen, with other NPCs being rivals that are more on the minor side and just haven't been shown off yet).

I was gonna go Paxton because Taunie, similar to Nate and Yancy in BW2. However given it IS Kalos, I'll wait to hear how fashion is for men from the inevitable leaks to see if I swap to Harmony or not.
My main save for Ultra Moon was Selene for this reason, as was Gloria in Sword until the DLC game Victor some decent shit.
