When I was a kid I came up with a Rock Eevee that was just a Flareon but with a huge Onix-like rock tail that ends in a boulder that's bigger than the rest of its body, which it uses to pulverize stuff. Despite this the rocks don't feel heavy to it. The gimmick was that it has overwhelming super strength, but is devoid of dexterity and finesse so it br aks shit accidentally all the time

This board isn't mature enough to handle this wisdom but the "special types" bullshit was completely coincidental and unintentional.

The reason it happened is cuz the point of Eevee is that it's an animal that adapts to different environments, and the most straightforward fantasy way of doing that is changing it into different elements. So you would want the Types that most closely resemble classic RPG elements, which is EXACTLY what the Gens I & IV Eevees are all based on. But the thing about RPG style elements is that they're usually depicted as beams of elemental energy, so THAT'S why all the Eevees ended up being special

Gen II Eevees are more or less the same. They're supposed to represent the light/dark fantasy elements but light type got scrapped so they just kinda did whatever
