I still think fan designs end up better more often than people are willing to admit but in this case there's a ton of designs out there based on the leaks. we've known roughly what mega dragonite would look like for a bit now

I don't have the sources for those specific pictures, but the concept of a Mega Dragonite having head and limb wings and a tail bead like Dragonair isn't anything new in fanart

i mean there are so many fan designs at this point, it's kind of hard to not make new forms/evos for existing mons without accidentally taking from fan designs. a flying type eeveelution in gen 7 was cancelled for that reason.

first one actually looks decent because the the wing details are spread across the design in a much more balanced fashion than the final product

I will proudly and without any shame bootlick the multibillion dollar company that is Game Freak "fucking over the fans" in this specific type of way. Nobody in their right mind wants actual good monster designs to be held hostage by basement-dwelling literal whos as good "stolen designs" are pro-consumer and are compliments of the highest order to any artist that claims to love the craft.

The fans probably only drew the wings on the head of dragonair because they used one of those pokemon merger websites and merged dragonair/dragonite and saw it.

Stealing from fanart is a joke when the fanart is just using inspiration from the previous evos.
