Does this confirm no Switch 2 Z-A edition? I usually get consoles day 1 so I never pay attention to this stuff but I still don't have a Switch 2 and was considering waiting for a Zygarde themed one, but if this is all...
Did they ever release bundles like this before also releasing special editions? I know Sword and Shield had a special Switch but no idea if there was a bundle too

The game is releasing for Switch 1 and 2 and you can upgrade your Switch copy for $10. No exclusive content only Switch 2 could run so just them being dicks.

wasn't there a dual game pack with Sword, Shield and the Switch on top of a Sword Shield themed OLED?

They're not going to split the production line when they're supply constrained. There will be no ZA special edition.

LGPE launched 18 months after the Switch launched. The small initial stock run sellout had long since been caught up to and Nintendo wanted Game Freak to try and take the 3DS audience they were in the middle of marketing towards with USM VGC to move to Switch for the kanto re-run and future games in the series. L: Z-A runs on Switch though and is launching about 4 months after the new system. They don't need to tempt pokédrones onto Switch 2 immediately (everyone and their brother knows Gen 10's gonna be a S2 exclusive anyway) meaning Nintendo can focus on supplying consoles for the demand all the way up to next January, instead of needing to organise a SE system.
The first proper SE Switch (as in an edition with detailing on the console/dock itself and not just a unique coloured pair of Joy-Cons) was also the LGPE unit, which as noted was long after the system's release.

im betting they probably still got a fuckton of the basic model switch 2s remember that they were overproducing these to combat scalpers but with this many they want to clear the inventory out with bundles before we start seeing special edition switch 2

It's been less than 2 months since the switch 2 released. They're not gonna release a limited edition console this soon. As funny as it would be, people would riot if nintendo immediately released a better option right after they bought the base console. Gen 10 should hopefully have a limited edition console, but if it doesn't, I'll be pissed.

We most likely won't get any Switch 2 special edition consoles until the sales slow down. Nintendo is struggling to keep up with the demand. Everywhere I go is either sold out or there's like one or two behind the counter that are reserved for someone who ordered for click and collect. Of course, I live in a big city, so maybe there's a store somewhere. I don't think there will be a special edition until it slows down.

Regardless, it's had the best console launch in terms of sales. It sold more in a week than the original Switch did in a month. I'm nlt sure why it's selling so well, but if it keeps up the momentum, it may overtake the PS2.

Yeah, povvos gonna screech poverty, it's what they're best at.

Turns out people love the fact they can take a telly-tier console on the go. Also turns out the majority of the buying public are not terminally online chuds, seriously bothered with nerdraging over specs.
Yeah, steam have their deck (but for how long before they get bored), the memebox manufacturers are scrambling to get their own handheld units out but none of them have the goodwill or IP's of Nintendo, which is why they were able to launch with MKW and sell shitloads, never mind the people like me who bought their Switch 2 an no S2 games, as launch line-up didn't interest me. they shouted out to a LOT of their individual IP fans in some fashion for launch year - Mario Kart, Zelda spin off, newest Pokémon a dual-release. And that's not touching the third party support of both old and new games (Eldin Ring, Cyberpunk and Borderlands 4, with BL4 being delayed just three weeks from main launch date) and scuttlebutt of more to come (I keep hearing about MS flight sim and MCC Switch 2 editions existing).

Snoytards don't understand people will buy things that entertain them. They've been gaslit by the corpo into thinking their walled garden is the optimum way to entertain oneself, despite its utter lack of critical must-plays that couldn't be found elsewhere.

when was the first special edition switch again? I know mario odyssey had a plain one with red joycons, but I think splatoon 2 had a proper one and that was pretty early, also the 3DS got an OoT one

Splatoon 2 one was special coloured joy-cons with a normal console.. The first SE Switch with actual detailing on the unit was the LGPE unit, 18 months after launch. The 3DS was a different case - cheaper, greater initial stock run with less demand for launch and bundled with an OoT remake (I didn't buy the SE 3DS but did buy one day OoT3D launched). There's more factors in play than simply "fuck it, we'll print a SE system for people". Don't worry, they'll have a Switch 2 Lite model for launch alongside Gen 10 you can buy (As they know demand for that will not equal demand for the big-boy system in the first 6 months of its lifespan thus can afford to hook one the assembly belts and dedicate it to SE shells).

the splatoon 2 one came out a year later
as for OOT 3DS it came out around november 2011 vs the console release of february 2011, so still a wider gap
with that in mind the 3ds was undergoing some trouble selling

No, they waited 18 months until stock shortages and the first year of release passed. Nintendo also enforced the leap, shortly after Switch launched, they shuttered their individual home console and portable console hard and software divisions and established a new blended hard and software division with all staff now working as one unit. They had ended the dual-system set-up and wanted all their related studios to similarly start supporting th new system as soon as possible.
I'm pretty sure the SE Pokémon console next year will actually be a Switch 2 Lite and not a full-fat Switch 2 however. Despite /vp/'s habitual hotboxing of their containment space with their own farts to huff constantly, Pokémon is still very much a child-focused franchise and Nintendo are well aware of the market as well. And they always launch a revision model for their systems when a new Pokémon generation launches on a new system, to afford younger players a cheaper option to buy into the series with (or more correctly, their parents to afford to get their offspring in). If you're really bothered about buying a Pokémon-branded S2, gotta ask yourself is it worth it to nerf yourself so hard?

Yeah, you ignored exactly what I said to whinge about it too. Like I said, LGPE's model launched 18 months after Switch, but they ALWAYS release a kid-friendly model of the system Pokémon's going to start a new Gen on a month before it's due to launch. Can huff all the hopium you want, Nintendo are going to be offering a cheap shitty all-in-one Switch 2 Lite for kids as the Special Edition (because again, they didn't force Game Freak onto Switch 2, with L: Z-A, it was funded to be developed for Switch1, despite getting a S2 upgrade).

Would the next game not have a custom switch 2, then the game after that have a lite model or whatever? I feel like they would likely release one pokemon version of the normal model before releasing the kid-friendly models. We got Pokémon 3DSes, we got a Pokémon Switch, we got a Pokémon OLED Switch. Surely they won't skip out on giving us a Pokémon Switch 2.
