Hopefully the board has slowed down enough that we don't get washed away by the flood of news.
Thread question: what have you found to be the hardest non gym leader trainer battle in a Nuzlocke?

Day 52

To prepare for my next Gym battle in Mistralton City, I spent time training and expanding my team. I caught a Deerling while exploring the nearby routes, then climbed the Celestial Tower where I added a Litwick to the team. With training complete, I challenged Skyla, the Gym Leader. She was stunning, with striking tanned skin that left an impression—but I stayed focused on the battle.

Krokorok opened with Crunch to bring down her Swoobat. Tynamo stepped in next and used Spark to take out Swanna. Her Unfezant proved more stubborn, especially with Razor Wind, but Dewott powered through using Razor Shell, eventually claiming the win. With another badge earned, I set off for Twist Mountain.

Inside the snowy tunnels, I faced another tough loss—Cottonee was defeated by a trainer’s Boldore, a hard blow to take. However, Darumaka evolved into a powerful Darmanitan, boosting my team’s strength. I also caught a Woobat as I navigated the icy maze.

After making it through the winding mountain paths, I finally arrived in Icirrus City, snow falling gently as the next challenge waited ahead.

Congrats on a clean gym battle. Brycen should be easy with Damanitan, but you Drayden/Iris is the reality threat to plan for.

i've tried to nuzlocke heart gold 3 times this week and i completely wiped to whitney's miltank all 3 times. i got such unreasonably bad luck in all 3 attempts that i feel like the game is trying to ward me off playing it this way.

first time she just kept using stomp and flinching, literally nothing i could do while she flinched geodude like 8 times in a row.

second attempt went much the same. this time i had an ace up my sleeve in bringing ghastly, only to discover she has an ability that lets her hit ghost types.

the last attempt was a total piss take, i managed to get miltank paralyzed with a smoke screen up and tried headbutt flinching and she STILL managed to get through more than 50% of the time and actually fucking pp stalled half my team with milk drink. i got so unluckly that the fact geodude instantly got burnt by clefairy's metronome'd sacred fire doesn't feel worth mentioning

i know i can get heracross by manipulating headbutt trees but that doesn't seem in the spirit of things, i think i will abandon this venture for now

I'm never gonna get that fucking Golduck.
At least I should have plenty of options to fill a water-locked slot in the future. Kind of makes me regret not picking Squirtle now, but Charmander seems like the safe bet in case anything happens to Axel.

Like i said, the random trainers are just plain mean at times. While i'm thinking about it, just ignore sky battles entirely. Not that you actually can at this point, bit just ignore them.

Day 53

To prepare for the upcoming Gym battle in Icirrus City, I took advantage of Surf and set out to explore more of Unova’s hidden areas. While exploring Mistralton Cave, I caught a determined Axew, a promising new addition. During my travels, Dewott finally evolved into a powerful Samurott, solidifying its place as the core of my team. I also caught a Frillish gliding through the water and a sturdy Dwebble tucked along a rocky path.

After my coastal adventures, I returned to Icirrus City, but something told me I wasn’t quite ready yet. I decided to continue training a little longer, making sure my team was in peak condition before taking on the next Gym challenge. The final stretch of Unova was drawing closer, and I wanted to be fully prepared.

My no-potions Emerald Seaglass Nuzlocke came to an end at Drake
Glacia got a bunch of lucky freezes in a row against half my team so when we made it to Drake we were already on our last legs and he cleaned us up.

Not too bummed about it though. Been years since I've even played I'm surprised we made it this far.

Also I see now why people straight up ban Gyarados from their runs, motherfucker 1-hit like 75% of the game without anyone else seeing the outside of their Pokeball.

Hi, Connor. Thanks for your question! You can get these romhacks by searching on Google.com and downloading the patch. Then you patch your legally obtained ROM with a program like Lips. Glad I could help!

Just resumed my Platinum Redux run... didn't go so well. So, I lost a bunch of great mons on the trainer that was right after the one I wiped to on the previous run I posted. They had a Drizzle Lotad that set up an Omanyte sweep, which even my Grotle couldn't handle as it was also a double battle (twins). I did manage to barely survive with Marshtomp and assembled a team out of everything except the bug/poisons. Byron is hard. I'm not looking at documentation except for things my team has, so Cut being grass type definitely took me off guard. Even with a Stealth Rock (as just like Roark was a dual Rock/Bug leader, Byron was Steel/Flying), I didn't stand much of a chance with my leftovers. Ready to jump back in, but I won't post an update till I beat the bastard.

I haven't played Renegade for quite a few years, but I recall getting to Hearthome after 3-5 attempts. I'm on my 4th attempt now and haven't reached Floaroma. If you thought Renegade changed a bunch, then this is unfathomable. Everything has movepool changes. Type match ups are more "balanced" (though there is a patch without them). Lots of things evolve quite a bit earlier. No fully evolved monotyped pokemon exist, though new designs are given to a lot of the retyped. Moves are drastically different (growl is now a 35bp dragon special move that lowers attack, harden has 1pp and raises spdef, nearly every low power move has a secondary effect atleast 20% of the time), there's a portable pc that can heal you instantly, 999 rare candies (only to be used right before a boss), lots of copies of held items (i've only obtained plates and sitrus berries so far). One of the biggest differences from Renegade is that bosses have an assortment of pokemon (maybe around 12) that they can choose from, so that if you theoretically save scummed, you'd likely face an entirely different team. Due to this, I've toyed with the idea of only saving after a boss and giving myself 1 extra try to reset to that point if I wiped to the next boss. Didn't try it last run, but I'm considering it, and it'd barely give me an advantage. It is still insanely fun, especially since you're basically relearning everything and there's lots of encounters early game.

Day 54

I continued training hard for my upcoming Gym battle. Along the way, I caught a quirky Stunfisk and watched as Axew evolved into a fierce Fraxure. While exploring the Moor of Icirrus, I also added a Shelmet to my team. Feeling ready, I returned to Icirrus City and challenged the Ice-type Gym Leader, Brycen.

The battle couldn’t have gone smoother. Darmanitan burned through Vanillish with Fire Punch. Sawk took out Beartic in one swift Brick Break. Finally, Darmanitan came back in and absolutely obliterated Cryogonal with a single Flare Blitz. It was a flawless win—no damage taken, every Pokémon down in one hit.

But there was no time to relax. I learned that Team Plasma had appeared at Dragonspiral Tower, aiming to awaken the legendary Pokémon, Zekrom. I rushed there and battled through waves of Plasma grunts. During the climb, Tynamo evolved into Eelektrik, and I caught a Mienfoo. But at the top, I was too late—N had already awakened Zekrom and disappeared.

Shortly after, I confronted more Team Plasma activity in the Relic Castle. While battling my way through, Krokorok finally evolved into the powerful Krookodile. With the threat rising, I knew my next destination had to be Opelucid City. I needed to learn more about the legendary dragons and what role I was meant to play in what’s to come.

Couple more Gyms down. Annoyingly I seem to have forgotten to ban OHKO moves when I set up the randomizer so I lost Azumarill to a Sheer Cold from Misty's Ice Torkoal. That'll teach me for going in slightly under level cap.
