Maybe, something like the Metroid 2 remake is still on the table
Either that or Showdown stops supporting VGC formats to the point it's purely fan fic meta

Given how retarded Ninendo is being, isn't impossible TPC could follow suit. Hopfefully with all the people playing romhacks on youtbue who still get invited to pokemon events that they clearly understand that going after fan stuff that isn't being directly sold is retarded.

TPCi is a lot less litigious than Nintendo. Also you'd still need Champions to actually attend tournaments. It's basically the same situation as now; they know it exists but you have to buy the games anyways so it doesn't hurt them.

They won't need to because the existence of an official simulator will kill off the fan-made ones anyways just like in yugioh.

It's open source, so if you're worried, just pull it from their gitHub now.

They legally can't. Battle simulators have existed for decades.

Hopefully. Sick of smoggies parading around their fanfic candyland simulator when the big boys are talking VGC

I think what a lot of people don't realize is that Showdown is open source and that if Nintendo ever actually tried taking it down, people could and would just host bootleg servers to compensate

Also if they actually had a good reason to do so then Showdown wouldn't have ever gotten as big as it ever had

What you don't realize is that deplatforming a system kills its popularity. Even if Showdown is open source and people make copies, there won't be anywhere near the same level of engagement, especially if Nintendo keeps going after them. They'll quickly empty out and official battle sims will take their place, accomplishing Nintendo's goal.

Didn't smoggies actually contact somebody who works at TPCI and got an OK from them to keep showdown up as long as they don't do anything retarded? And as the reasons posted above, I doubt showdown is going anywhere.

It was as much because TPC had no official Sim to count showdown as competition. But now they're making an official battle sim, it sounds like they've had enough of letting them "live in peace".

Nintendo didn't have a battle sim app to compete with showderp, you dumb little monkey. Contrary to popular belief, Nintendo don't just litigate fans everywhere for everything ever, unless they're directly infringing on one their trademarks - ie can draw ALL the pokémon porn you want, of all the little girls they create if you wish. But when you start charging a monthly stipend to live off for drawing porn of the little girls of pokémon is when Nintendo will C'n'D you from drawing pokémon porn, even while they let fanartists draw and sell doujins at comiket.
They let showderp play, as they had no plans to take a battle engine out the games and put it separate. Now they have, they're well within their rights to take out showderp as infringing works of their IP.

Issue is that Showdown is open source and forked like hundreds times already. I'm also not sure if TPCi has possibility to pester Git for removal of repositories.

By "contacting TPCi" they probably meant "talking to some random rep at a VGC tournament", pretty meaningless if it's not someone very high up since it's the people in Japan who make decisions.
