It just kills suspension of disbelief in anyone above 80IQ. You need to actually be retarded to think this looks like a functional animal in-universe.

Behold my fantasy dragon design. It doesn't need to make a lick of sense because it's FANTASY! Fantasy means random abstract bullshit after all.

Now there are also Korean Dragons, where before they become Dragons they are Imugi, snake-like creatures before they ascend and become a Dragon.

Imugi and by extention Korean dragons are heavily associates with water (same with Chinese dragons) and they are oftentimes depicted living in a lake. They are also extremely associated with pearls since thats how they turn from snake to dragon, they recieve a pearl called a yeouiju which they carry upon becoming a dragon (sometimes imugi are born with it and have to gather power into the yeouiju) and they keep it upon becoming a dragon. Thats actually basically the only way to differentiate a Korean dragon from a Chinese one its the marble or pearl its holding

I think the big reason why in Gen 1 the line ends with Dragonair being a European design more than Eastern design is the fact they already used the Eastern dragon for the Gyrados line. With Gyrados being based on the popular mythos where a koi fish swims up stream and becomes a dragon

they didnt want dragonite to basically be gyrados 2 as the games first psuedo
