2. but perhaps more importantly, if you make it so every hairstyle (and other feature) is available to both genders, you WILL get bad effects from it, because a development process where that is the assumption is not the same as one under the assumption that there will NOT be a gender free for all.
For example: under the gender lock system, females might get exclusive shoulder length hairstyles and males one as well (like inspired by metalheads). But it might be that if you mix the genders together, such a distinction is not consciously recognized and they will make less memorable middle of the road solutions.
