Even through Lance jobbed him vs Diantha was the only match I liked out of that mess mainly because of their speeches to their regions before they got into it. Lance and Diantha outside of Leon are very public figures in their regions where as everyone else is rather private enough that Steven and Cynthia can wander around their regions without anybody hassling them, Unova barely gives a shit about it's league to care that Iris is their champion and Alola was represented by Ash in this arc because in stand in for the game character he is Alola's first ever champion and he won the whole thing.
