Do the newer games just lob shinies at you? I only picked Scarlet like 3 weeks ago, and already I've gotten 4 shinies without even boosting my chances or trying for it (2 specifically from raids).

Are you getting the raid shinies from joining online raids? There are a bunch of people that manipulate a shiny encounter for the raid, I've gotten assloads of shinies that way. In general, though, the shiny odds are way more forgiving from Kalos onward, roughly double the original rate.

nta but i know in swsh there was oldschool rng manip. it was something like being able to advance your rng for a raid one day at a time thru system settings, then input your results into a program that can then determine your seed and the outcomes you'd get going forward. from there you just keep going until you got a shiny "day", then reset until you got the pokemon in the raid you wanted. this is all from memory and it's been years though so i could be wrong. SV may have smth similar but i didnt play it on cart

even in the overworld you can frequently encounter shinies that aren't in outbreaks

Even with the exact same shiny odds, it's obviously way easier to run into a shiny in scarlet/violet just because of the sheer amount of pokemon you can see in the overworld in the same time it takes to fight a single one in a grass random encounter in the older games.
Add the sparkling sandwiches and the mass outbreaks on top of that and shinies are basically free.
Any shiny you get from raids is hacked though, same from wonder trade

there's like 3 or more twitch streams with something like 6 switches running 24/7 generating shiny raids based on rng seeds. it's all botted but "real" in that they are actual raids that are legal and all that.
