The game is so laughably unbalanced at this point, there's overpowered pokemon, types like fairy being all-powerful and rock being absolutely worthless, and yet they rarely make any meaningful changes.
I'm sure Champions will be collecting statistics of battles that show usage and win rates of pokemon. Why I'm sure they've encountered the meta a bit with VGC, this will give them a whole lot of data

Maybe it's just wishful thinking but they've really got to clean up a lot of the broken stuff and this would be the perfect opportunity to do so. I just hope they're willing to update Champions over time and buff/nerf moves, pokemon, and maybe even type matchups

Nothing new, they've been doing this since like XY and only occasionally showed signs of using it to nerf Pokemon. How long has Incineroar dominated doubles, and instead of nerfing it they keep giving it new moves like Parting Shot? I don't think they care that certain Pokemon are the face of the meta.

I was hopeful that Champions would introduce something new that would expand the game and let them re-balance things, but after the last trailer it's becoming more apparent that the game is just lazily porting the standard battle system and mechanics 1:1.

Is this not just Nintendo finally making their own showdown 15 years too late? I mean, I guess I'm interested to see how this will affect VGC, I'm expecting massive shakeups, not really to the meta, but just the format of how battles are officially conducted.

I can already tell there won’t be any balance patches that are genuinely major. I can tell based on the fact that the teambuilder they are providing is already dogshit and basically pointless.
If they couldn’t let players make Pokemon teams in a snap like you can on Showdown, what makes you think Champions won’t be the most barebones experience, with literally no mechanic changes?
The most they’ll do is make it so you can’t lower IVs and shit.
