Besides, at least for this game, the two player characters do look significantly physically different to each other, it's not like in SV.

I don't think SV has any options locked behind either gender. Male MC can even wear lipstick iirc.
But yeah, as I said, they were too young for facial hair so that's the main reason why that never would've been an option. But the possibility is now there with the older MCs so I think there is a chance they'll do something.
