Persona is still popular everywhere, Dragon Quest is still popular in Japan, Like a Dragon turned from an action title into a turn-based one, tons of popular turn based games come out constantly, Final Fantasy has been struggling since they dropped turn based combat despite 16 being a solid action game and not having a disastrous development, I dunno if I believe you.

They tend to take fewer risks with the new gen pairs, so I personally doubt it, too. They'll play around with the game's structure or story presentation on occasion, but the basics of combat being simplistic enough for 5 y/o drawer pissers to manage is something I think will unfortunately never change.

Yep. Only thing they might do is some mixture of Z-A and old game mechanic. Maybe you can command Pokemon to dodge and catch Pokemon in similar way like in Legends games, but keeping abilities, held items and turn based combat and such. However, what I could see as possible happening is that Gen 10 game wouldn't have competetive format and that job would be monopolized by Champions
