People are going to have problems with megas no matter what is done with them because they're conceptually extreme, taking what used to be the final step in a line and deliberately pushing it even further beyond that is what Mega Evolution is all about.
Megas are effectively pokegods made real, that's cool, but it's not hard to see why a lot of people don't like them on principle and it's easy to understand them when many megas don't look great and/or when Pokémon that don't need them get fucking two megas while most shitmons continue to wallow in utter obscurity.

I only have problems with megas that are uncreative and don't bring any sort of cool twist to the original design, I love Mega Kangaskhan because at first it's unexpected that only the baby gets a powerup but it's also completely fitting, that's pretty cool, it's the main concept of the pokemon dialed up to 11. Same thing with Slowbro, you expect the main mon to get the powerup but its turns out it's the Shellder, the thing that makes it a Slowbro in the first place, that evolves. Banette gets more zippers on its limbs that open up to reveal the pink ghost that's been inside the doll all along, and you can still see the shape of its old fingers and legs poking out, that's also pretty cool. I also like megas that radically change the pokemon's silhouette like Heracross, Beedrill or Swampert . The ones I don't like are the ones that just tack shit on top of the original design, like Sharpedo, Medicham, Lucario and Aerodactyl. and holy fuck Dragonite is the absolute epitome of "tacking shit on top of the original design", like it literally looks like it was designed by drawing on top of the original design's model sheet

Megamence is the most minmaxed piece of shit. It reminds me of Gen 4 Garchomp, where every last stat is perfectly designed juuust so it can get the kills it wants with both offenses, outspeed just the right enemies, and tank exactly what it needs to. I used to run Megamence with this stat spread that more or less had EV investment in every stat except special attack, and it was undefeatable. It was even a high ranking Smogon set to build it that way.

Mega Dragonite is the the only one here I actually dislike the design of. The rest of them except for Salamence visually downgrade but they're just decent. None have the level of thought put into Megamence which takes the lore/theme of evolutionary line and draws a befitting endgame for it.

Metagross and Dragonite keep the spirit of the originals best. Salamence is fine and fits the flying motif but irs kinda silly, Tyranitar is boring, and Garchomp actively kills the sleekness which was the entire selling point of the base form.
