You guys remember 12-13 years when everyone hated Tierno for looking chubby and simple? I did, too. On hindsight, his design was actually original, you can easily tell who he is by his silhouette, which is character design 101. Hell, each one of the rest of the XY friend group looks unique.

The friend group in Legends Z-A have the exact same design philosophy, they don’t at all feel like unique and different people, they actually feel more like characterized stereotypes spurned up by one artist.

I’m not even a Kalosperm, but the differences are like night and day.

His design is original but ugly + boring regardless and considering how disposable his character is the recognizable silhouette doesn't mean much. The Kalos friend group would've actually be drastically improved without him since it was already too large and he doesn't mesh with the dynamic on even an aesthetic level (which I can at least say for the ginger kid even though he's just as irrelevant as Tierno). But yes, he's still better designed than some of these new characters because the bar is just that low now. His sister ironically enough has a great design though.

The problem with the XY friends wasn't design but they lacked personality or a real goal. Also in general it was WAY too childish. Even for the franchise, SM did rivals/friends better so did SwSh and SV has the best friend group ever.

I thought good character designs are those by their recognizable silhouette alone? So how can someone like Tierno be bad while someone like Serena who doesn't stand much that way is considered good?
