Someone here said it before, but it's pretty simple; the more modern it is the easier it is for these fuckwits to manipulate. We got all the NFT-bros now so it's all just a speculation game. The card itself hardly even matters. It's just investors buying each other's bags and guessing what's going to be hot. Which often turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy as they manage to hype up retards who just got into the hobby with Pocket. Just look at Black & White. Fucking SEISMITOAD IR is the seventh most expensive card in the sets. The only SIRs more expensive then it are Reshiram and Zekrom. Why? Because investards know that Kanda did a couple of cards that went up in price so surely that must mean ANY Kanda MUST be expensive, right? Same goes for Victini. It's an ugly stock image in red that comes in both sets, BUT IT'S A NEW RARITY AND IT'S SO HARD TO PULL OH MY GOD INVEST INVEST INVEST. At least I made $350 bucks selling the one I pulled on release day.

Are you stupid?
I hate gen 5 designs and I would only consider buying that card exactly because it's by Kanda, he's that good.
The card is expensive simply because people like the art.
Now proceed to cope, seethe and dilate.

Not all the cards di Kanda are expensive, genius.
People collect all the cards by Kanda, regardless of the pokemon.
There are more people that collect Kanda than there are that collect Komiya. It's not rocket science.

lmao, okay investard.
Kanda is a good artist. The card is very pretty. But there are over 150 other gorgeous illustrations featuring far more popular Pokemon and this particular one of fucking Seismitoad is worth several of them? Fake as fuck. No different than that ridiculous Komiya pump we saw a little while back. It's expensive because speculators need some arbitrary detail to latch onto and Kanda is one of like three artist names they actually recognize; and even that's only because of other recent hype cards. Oh, and let's not forgot that they're also peddling the retarded notion that this card will be "banned" or altered in future prints because it has "666" in it.

Oh, It's easy to get into the head of retards like you. You just go down a checklist to determine what the big hype card is, and it's entirely based around the most recent and painfully obvious trends. No one was saying shit about this card before release. But then suddenly after it released there's a massive buyout that doubles its price in the span of a day? Oh yes that's totally organic demand! We all know the popularity of the Pokemon doesn't really matter. It's the artist that counts! lmao Call it cope or whatever, it's not gonna make me give any more of a shit about the card. If I happen to pull it I can just sell it to some sucker.

The expensive Komiya cards aren't the modern ones. Kanda came out recently and has just a few cards to his name, so on top of having beautiful art, they are also much easier to collect.
Completing a Komiya binder is much harder because you have to go out of your way to find the vending cards and the special promos, while with Kanda once you dish out the big bucks for the Giratina and the Karp, you are set.

Damned hypocritical speculating """collectors""" dimwits
>This artist has fewer cards so that's why he's so better to collect
True collectors go out of their way to complete their collection goal and once that's completed they often start another goal
The chase is the most fun part of collecting, it's also the one that requires the most time and knowledge
Go collect for both Squawkabilly and for Chatot, you'll learn that finding a good deal on a card like pic related is one of the best feeling in this hobby
If your collection goal can be completed with just a few TCGplayer orders, then it's not really a goal is it? Might as well have your goal marked down as "Have disposable income."

Then buy vintage? I buy illustration rares because I like that there's more space for the artist to express their vision. For once an evil corporate does a step in the right direction to evolve a product, but nooo, here it's always old=soul and new=soulless, and people will die on that hill saying that stock sugimori art or, worse, stock old 3D on a stock background is a better looking card than the average SIR.
There are good and horrible looking vintage, and horrible and good looking modern.

Don't change my post, I said 'easier' to collect, not better. I was explaining why more people collect Kanda than Komiya, and I wasn't even talking about myself and I'm not the anon who posted the slowking.
Kanda cards are few and all modern, so they are much easier to find.
Some Komiya cards require a lot of research and patience, and most of them are vintage.
Is one collection better than the other? No. People advocating "true collecting" are at the same level of delusion as investors.

I have nothing against new cards, I went nuts for IR and SIR when they were first introduced in the late S&M blocks under different names. Hell, I was legitimately pissed some people were still chasing after a stupid looking rainbow rare Charizard when the same set also had a few gorgeous SIR
What irks me are people who come into this hobby, act like they're diehard Pokรฉmon TCG fans but ONLY care for IR and SIR cards
That's like if you went to a car show only to ogle at the fancy new sports car even though there are dozens of vintage vehicles you rarely ever get to see

Barely anyone wants to put in the effort, most people just want to open boosters of the latest set and buy whatever singles is currently trendy
>People advocating "true collecting" are at the same level of delusion as investors.
True, and as much as I'd love for most people to experience the same joy I did when chasing after some obscure vintage card I know that won't happen
I'm still gonna judge people who blindly master set Black Bolt and White Flare when they could fill out an entire binder of cards curated to their preference for that same price

I think it's OK as long as they have a reason for it, such as growing up with gen5, or collecting the first sets to ever feature an entire generation in IR, or if they have been masterset autists for ages.
Nowadays most people collect the new shiny sets just because they have to. They don't even look at commons in the binder, but they must be there to fill the spot. I don't even consider it a physical FOMO as these sets will be reprinted for 2 years, it's more of a mental FOMO, the influencers have these sets, so these people must be seen asap on socials and reddit showing off the very same collection, to be part of the crew.

Question for the types who collect all the cards of their favourite mons: how do you do your binders?
Do you have dedicated binders for each mon? A lot of my favourites are gen 3+ shitmons with only a handful of cards so it that kinda feels like overkill I'm thinking I might have to swap off my zip binders to a d ring I can add pages to as needed since trying to reorganize for new releases/finding more mons I want to collect is looking like a huge headache but every resource and forum ever seems to reccommend the zip binders with the pages sewn in

On a similar question does anyone collect really obvious bootlegs? I keep seeing shit like peruvian and chinese cards that I personally think are really funny so I'm thinking of using those as binder fillers in place of the grails I won't be getting anytime soon if ever

So?
Maybe it's arrogant on my part, and I don't want to diminish an artist I like, but it seems clear to me that despite what you said there are still more people collecting Kanda cards than there are collecting Komiya.

Not anytime soon, the next Mega Evolutions set looks great and then there's the 30th anniversary next year. Only way the hobby can crash now is if the economy shits itself with Trump and people can't afford to buy cardboard anymore.

A game store I like and its many branches in the third-world country I live in used to a have dedicated shelf for Pokemon cards like that. But for some reason they started to dissapear at the end of the SW/SH. And they were completely gone when Obsidian Flare came out.

the pull rate is abysmal worse than a SAR. It's comparable to your odds of pulling a specific sar from a set (i.e. moonbreon)

I bought the entire set minus the painting from some eBay seller.
They were part of a Japanese promotion featuring the scream painting by Edvard Munch. Here is a article about them:

The card on the left has a ding across the top the the right. Itll grade a 7.
The card on the right has bad centering, very skinny on the left boarder and across the top, very thick across the bottom. A grade of 9 at best. In conclusion they are worth more raw and only increase the odds of mail theft or grading facility theft.
