I haven't been proper into Pokefart since Pokegay Yellow and Pokepoop Stadium

What's the best way to get back up to date with Pokecrap and all the new Pokelame?

Thanks!

The ashnime ended 2 years ago so you can just focus on the new games and the Adventures manga

But I played Scarlet and had no idea who over half the pokemon were. I feel like its more fun when you know the pokemon so what's the best way to get up to date?

HeartGold > Platinum > Black > X > Omega Ruby > Ultra Sun > Sword > Scarlet
That should be more than good enough to get you up to speed on every new Pokemon.

go back and play the games you missed and download the movies instead of watching the whole anime

I'd recommend going like this:
Heartgold/Soulsilver or Crystal (depending on if you want something closer to what you experienced with Pokémon Yellow, or a “newer” version with some improvements and more stuff to do) Emerald or Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire (imo Emerald is still superior, but you may prefer something more recent) Platinum (definitively the best Sinnoh experience) Black/White Black 2/White 2 X/Y Sun/Moon or Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon (story-wise, the original SM are actually better, but USUM add a ton more Pokémon to the roster and a bit more side content. But don't play one and then the other, as that'll just be a slog) Sword/Shield Legends: Arceus (adds just a few more Pokémon, it's not a new generation, but honestly it was really fun and a nice experience. Though the Legends games aren't technically? part of the main series, so you may want to skip it if you want to) Scarlet/Violet.
Essentially, what >>58045013 said, but with a few more addenda. I'd heavily recommend going to each game's Bulbapedia article to judge for yourself what you'd prefer to play. Also, don't rush through them, but take your time trying to appreciate what each of them offers.

Samefag, but 4chan erased the nifty arrows I used on the message, haha...
Abbreviating what I said:
HGSS or Crystal > Emerald or ORAS > Platinum > BW > B2W2 > SM or USUM > SwSh > LA > SV

Also do most people who play the games also follow the anime?

i dont think so, im sure a lot of people enjoy both, but the anime and games don't have much overlap

It's just that I forgot to write XY, hehe. I actually like them more than Gen 5 (for purely subjective reasons)

Np! I don't follow the anime; I'm not a fan of it. I watched it as a kid, but I've always been a fan of the games and not of the anime. From what I understand, from SM onwards, the anime has stopped following the footsteps of the games (i.e., Ash having an adventure that parallels that of the games).
