Aside from Dream World, you can play those for at least 20 hours each without even touching the online. Join Avenue can be completed offline as well. I maxed mine out just with NPCs in about a month or so. In addition to this, there's tons of side quests, secrets, legendaries, Black Tower/White Treehollow, tons of post game bosses/rematches and Pokéstar Studios.
Aside from Dream World, you can play those for at least 20 hours each without even touching the online. Join Avenue can be completed offline as well. The PWT is basically the frontier, plus you've got the Subway and Institute. No one really cared about secret bases, but there was Join Avenue and Dream World, contests were replaced by Musicals and Pokéstar Studios, almost no one used Pokéradar, BW2 introduced Hidden Grottoes which is similar in the fact it allows to to get rarer Pokémon, finally trainer customization, a thing they hadn't considered until the next gen. I'm willing to bet that if we had never gotten customization, no one would really care.

I like PWT, and no, it absolutely is not. The rental mode of it is so limited, and it never gets enjoyable because a run ends after three battles.

It's better in my opinion, and I grew up with Emerald and Platinum's BFs. It doesn't take nearly as long to get challenging. Its rental mode is unironically harder than early Battle Factory. I've straight up never been able to beat PWT Rentals once, but I've beaten both iterations of the factory countless times (I count beating as getting the gold symbol/colored print). Mix mode is fun, all the download tournaments are cool, and you can even make custom tournaments (no joke) and import them through save editing.
