for me there was a time in my life where i was completely and utterly emersed in pokemon diamond. even with not much to do in the endgame, as a kid it felt like i was living in the pokemon world. the effect was further amplified by diamond and pearl's day/night cycle that scaled with the real world time. night in real life became night in the game too, which changed the music to nighttime themed and all the in-game houses had their interior lights turned on.
