Thoughts on dark types?
Are they bad? Are they good? Did Fairy buttfuck them too hard?

Dark, or rather Evil, is a stupid ass concept for a type.

Darks were necessary to keep Psychic in check.
Dragons did not need a counter type, there needed to be a rework of the already flawed type matchup chart.
Steel and fairy did not need to happen at all and were just ungodly busted types for the sake of it.

It's not "evil" though. Dark is the asshole type, they're ruthless and unfair but not inherently evil. Some dark types will be ruthless for moral reasons even.

Dark as a type in general represents doom, amorality, cruelty, deceit, underhandedness and in some cases evil

Represents those things as well, because types don't determine a mon's inherent qualities as a species, and dark type ≠ bad
Absol as a species embodies the exact opposite of all those things and how those traits can either be used altruistically or inverted completely

Hard disagree. Dragon definitely did need a counter type. Outrage spam was too free in gen 5.
I think Fairy was poorly implemented, and ended up becoming too good itself because GF made its only weaknesses pretty weak on the offensive side.
But something needed to be immune to Dragon.

Absol doesn't need to be evil to be a dark-type, the same way water-types don't need to actually be made of water, or fire-types don't need to actually be made of fire.
Absol itself isn't evil, but Absol is in-tune with the force of evil, and uses that evil affinity for good to protect others.

Most of the pokemon are too edgy and it has some of the worst discourse around what it does/doesn't represent. Pic related is best dark type.

Dark is a valid type in the context of pokemon. Some types are just what energy/substance the pokemon controls: Fire, Water, Electric, some are how the pokemon fights/what tactics is use: Fighting (Martial Arts), Dark (trickery), others are just what the pokemon is: Bug, Dragon. Though of course there are plenty of exceptions and crossovers.

Absol is Dark-type because of meta reasons. People are afraid of it, it seems like it brings bad omens, thus it’s Dark-type. It’s similar to how Pangoro and Skuntank are delinquent-inspired.

Why is Mighteyena Dark-type then? For every meme reason why Dark-types are Dark-type you have half a dozen Pokemon that exist outside of it. The type is coincidental as fuck
