You have the power to erase one generation off of the Pokedex. However, it won't change anything else tied to the games these pokemon appear in. They would continue to exist but either with old Pokemon or just different designs. Which gen do you get rid of ?

Very little would change about Diamond and Pearl if you remove Gen 4 mons. It's mostly Kantomons anyway. Box legends can be literally anything since they don't do anything.

Congrats. You just created Pokemon without pokemon. Later gens removing only that gen's pokemon would still have others in the game. gen 2 minus Johto would still have the encounter table as Kanto mons. Hoenn minus gen 3 or gen 2 would still have the other two gens pokemon. But in a gen 1 game, you just removed all pokemon. This makes the other games not have Kanto pokemon and play just fine, but this means that GRBY have zero pokemon. I guess this makes everyone have just Missingno.

Alola has the best dex and if you’re saying it should be erased you should unironically be executed

I would honestly say Gen 8 before ever thinking about erasing Gen 6. I can think of a few designs I enjoy a lot in Gen 6, but even If we count the Hisuian forms as part of Gen 8, there's like two pokemon I would keep in the entire roster.

can I get some clarification from OP regarding how cross gen evolutions work? Like if I erased the Kanto dex, would Pichu and whatnot continue to exist just as Pokemon independent from their lines, or do they also get erased?

Erased and replaced either by the same type of pokemon linked to the one replacing the erased one in the first place, since in your example Pikachu is erased, he will be replaced by a new electric type that evolves once and you would get a baby from that same replaced line instead of Pichu in G2
