Also, fucking history and mythologies, they have a lot of material for doing many object/concept mons, and yes, they can share many of the things between greece, italy or spain but they still have A LOT not used

Gen 10’s thing is supposedly a load of procedurally generated islands, and that might annoy people who actually know the region’s inspiration and are expecting certain islands.
If Greece was the region, for example, people would expect Crete and Lesbos and shit, and get annoyed when it’s a bunch of random generations instead.
Nobody knows anything about SEA so there’s less risk of bugging people.

Correct, Greece is about myths and not isles themselves for non Greek and history enthusiasts, a classic region with Greek or Romans in mind would have worked. Obviously they had in mind the Odyssey and Aeneid as it is also a journey and quest based tale and adventure which is very easy to exploit and reference backed by plethora of mythology local lore.
When it comes to islands having each their own culture and habits then SEA would have worked better, for natural real animals too. Or SEA + Australia.
