1. This game is barely a sequel, it's basically just a new game set in a familar region
2. That's just review bombers who are angry about the game (whether valid or not) - just like SwSh and SV it's going to break sales records regardless since Pokemon is inescapable now

I love ZA but this would've been so cool. I really like the past setting and the million Johto references in Arceus really made me think it was next (which clearly it was, until it wasn't)

Sadly this likely won't change anything since Z-A has seemingly sold kinda okay.

The game is fun as fuck, im at 40 hours, 100 pokemon caught. Battling, exploring, customization, all enjoyable. Also the writing is self-aware and mocks itself and how silly the pokemon setting is, which is nice.

I fucking hate modern Pokemon and even I am enjoying the shit out of ZA, it's really just hated because Game Freak and Nintendo have gotten themselves into some deep trouble with the fans, so everyone kinda wants to hate it out of confirmation bias
From my experience it's by far the best Pokemon game on the Switch (which isn't saying much, the bar was subterranean, but I genuinely do really like this one)

So yeah, the exploration isn't half bad. Granted, it's not perfect, and the first hour or so sucks cause you're railroaded to hell and back, but after that yeah it's pretty fun

I loved PLA but nothing about this game looked like it was carrying on what PLA laid down.

>Emphasis on battling, not catching & dex completion
>Set in "future", which really just feels like the present, not set in the past
>Quieter tone of PLA has been replaced by normal Pokemon aesthetics

Come on now, really? Getting lost in alleys because everything and everywhere looks identical is hardly good exploration.

I've been playing it. It's okay. Like it's not the 4.3 user score people are giving it on metacriric, but the main critic is accurate. It's mediocre but passable.

Main complaints about graphics are accurate in terms of the world itself. Buildings are flat and soulless, flora is less than it could be compared to PLA. Character designs are mostly fine, but some characters, like manface Hex Maniac variant are jarring.

Exploration IS more rewarding than SV but less so than PLA or even SwSh. Story is on par with SV. I personally liked the new battle system, but it could use improvements. OST was pretty good

The only hold-over is catching in the overworld and alphas, that's about it. But every fucking wild zone is so god damned minuscule. The best strategy I've found is just running from one end to another throwing Pokeballs and using the entrances to de-aggro with no fucking downside.
In Arceus I looked forward to new areas opening, and old places having new areas to explore once you got the relevant ride Pokemon. In Z-A, I get a notification on my phone that a new wild circle opened up, and it's 100%'d in about 10 minutes and it's straight back to mindless missions.

As much as I love Johto and want more of it, GameFreak constantly skipping over it means it gets to remain peak. They have not ruined Gen 2 yet. I'm legit hoping they never touch Johto again.

if it's pokemon, it'll make money that first year regardless. We haven't had a good Pokemon game in like a decade at least, and yet every game still outsells the last one. An MMO with some micro transactions will shit money for that first year. There will be no longevity as just like the last few gens the casuals get burned by how shit it is, so they finish the main story then just bail. Still, that first year it WILL make it's money back and some.

There were so many opportunities for variety they could have added. Why not make a Pokemon Snap mini game? You literally have a camera ffs, and Yakuza Infinite Wealth showed you can do that. How about a food delivery minigame, you have to ride a gogoat around Lumious like crazy taxi? Nope, fuck you, enjoy your ugly as sin flat unity asset city with nothing to do except engage in barebones combat. Fucking hell. Scarlet and Violet on Switch 2 and PLA mog this game ruthlessly
