It's sure as hell not a western style circus strongman, that would be a Mega-Conkeldurr.
And to the best of my knowledge it has no resemblance to any eastern style strongmen. A traditional japanese strongman would be a big sumo dude lifting a rock called a banmochiishi. So a hypothetical Mega-Hariyama. I suppose there is a case to be made that both Azumarill and Diggursby are FAT rabbits, but it doesn't explain Mawile.
And definitely it has no connections directly to mochi, like say if its new mouths were especially fond of it or something.
Nor is there any connection between mochi and Futakuchi-onna, like maybe if it was the monster's favorite or if its chewy nature could keep them occupied so they don't eat you, or anything like that. The stories i could find all have it eating normal rice balls, not rice paste made into an edible gum.
There is yokai that do have a gluttonous affinity for mochi, for instance the Appossha. Mega mawile does not gain any features to resemble it.
So that ONLY leaves indirect connection to mochi, i.e. rabbit.
And it does, when its mouths are closed, if you squint, look like a rabbit.
They could have just as easily left it one mouth and made it bigger. Or positioned the second one on the front, or made its front mouth as monstrous as the back.
They made them side by side, flopped backwards, like a rabbit. It's no more rabbity than umbreon or clefable or wigglytuff. But it is, just as they are, slightly rabbity.
