Which property had better games in the 16 bit era, Spider-Man or X-Men?

Spiderman Maximum carnage and separation anxiety clear any xmen game imo. There's a Lotta slop outside of those two

Well haven't you always wanted to use your mutant power only just barely in emergency situations before it starts killing your health bar and you just have to boringly punch enemies like it wasn't a superhero game?

God why was every xmen game like this, I've played your picrel at a friend's house but also had the spiderman/xmen arcades revenge crossover and it was the same shit.
>wolverines claws count as a mutant power sapping his energy
Never made any fucking sense. Could have just been a self heal, but fighting with your fists 95% of the games was fucking retarded. I think in decades revenge you can get softlocked in levels that need his slash to move on but you could stupidly use all his claw power before the obstacles

The only thing I remember about this game is that I tried to order it from Kool-Aid with reward points that we saved up but they ran out of copies and we got sent all of our points back, a couple of beach towels, and a copy of Batman Forever instead. Never felt so cheated in my life.

Still have and use the beach towels, though, those fuckers were SHOCKINGLY sturdy considering they've lasted over 30 years at this point.

While it's not perfect, a bit slow paced and tough in some places, X-men Mutant Apocalypse let you spam powers/special attacks freely. Not mention it also had a particularly thicc Psylocke.

X-Men had a few good titles, but I think Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin alone wins it for Spider-Man. I still can't stand how the sequel got scrapped in favor of... X-Men... those damn mutants!

Based but it's just a sticking point that was very unique to xmen games forever. Even the xmen legends games didn't escape the curse

Spider-Man has zero good games until we hit the 3D era. ALL of his 2d games suck hard.
X-Men have a few decent action/platformers, so they win.

Spider-Man had quite a few good 2D titles:

>Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin (Master System/Game Gear)
>The Amazing Spider-Man (Game Boy)
>Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin (Mega Drive)
>The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Game Boy)
>Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin (Mega CD)
>Spider-Man & Venom in Maximum Carnage (Super Nintendo/Mega Drive)
>Venom & Spider-Man in Separation Anxiety (Super Nintendo/Mega Drive)

When we got to the 3D era, 2D titles kept being made, and were also good:

>Spider-Man (Game Boy Color)
>Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six (Game Boy Color)
>Spider-Man: Mysterio's Menace (Game Boy Advance)

X-Men 2: Clone Wars is pretty kino, even lets you play as Magneto.
It's a little too easy though, especially compared with the first.

This game is doodoo and it looks like an NES game. I knew it would be bad when I bought it for $5 at the flea market when SNES prices were starting to climb. Super Metroid and FF6 were $40 at that point and Doom was $20. All cart only.

Separation Anxiety is the sucker version of Maximum Carnage. I still don't understand why they have made the change they had, when they released this title. They had the almost perfect Beat em up with Maximum Carnage. They just needed to add the new levels, mobs, bosses and storyline and they got a nice game.

The most faggott moment of this game was that you had to soft-reset the console (thing that you never do to any other title), without any save-state mechanism available. Seriously, I hope the guy who invented that, got fired immediately.

But when it comes to Spider-Man and X-Men, it was a wash.

I have never found the game to be any good. But the Tim Folin soundtrack for this game is amazing:

>-Spider-Man Web of Fire (Does the 32x count?)

Spider-Man Web of Fire was one of the first games announced for the 32x, and it was also one of the very last that Sega released on the console. It is a complete train-wreck. There was also a highly publicized X-Men game in development by a group called Scavenger for the 32x. But this was cancelled in what looks like a pre-beta state. It looks neat for a 32x game, almost like Electro-Cop. But still looks clunky and unfinished. Nice placeholder soundtrack by Jesper Kyd.

>- Spider-Man vs the Kingpin - Genesis/ MD - Sega 1991
>- Amazing Spider-Man vs the Kingpin - Sega CD/ MCD - Sega 1993

I always liked the game on the Genesis. It was an early Genesis game that I remember renting when I was young. The game had a nice rouge gallery of villains. The game felt like it was made using the same level editor as Revenge of Shinobi. Or at least the same 'engine' as Michael Jackson's Moon Walker. Early Genesis action games from Sega all have a similar feel to them. I like the photo mechanics and the mild RPG-ish elements. It's not an impressive looking game. The box art was always confusing too. As it was just called Spider-Man... but when you boot up the game it is called Spider-Man vs The Kingpin. I never really played the Sega CD version much. It has some wacky looking FMV and it seems like it has extended game play from the Genesis game.

I remember the X-Men 1992 arcade game at Chuck-E-Cheeses and it was awesome. Haven't played any other 2D game of either franchise so I'm going with X-Men.

I prefer the Mega Drive version too, the atmosphere and feel are just so SEGA, moody but lighthearted in all the right places, also love the apartment and Daily Bugle photos mechanic to make you feel more like Peter Parker and not just Spider-Man. I think the Mega CD version is still worth giving a full playthrough at some point, anon. It's FMVs and improved controls, also its almost open world feel, make it unlike anything else at the time for Spider-Man.

It's a shame, Web of Fire is the closest we got to a Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin 2 in some ways, but it sucked.

For a 32x game, it doesn't really take advantage of the hardware very well. The controls oddly feel worse than Spider-Man vs Kingpin. It features a bunch of lesser known villains. It was the last game Sega published for the 32x. It was printed in a limited run of 1500 copies. The game still goes for quite a bit of money.

Idk why but the expressions on this box always make me chuckle
Venom looks all like "Yes, on the cover of yet another game!" while Spider-Man is glaring at him like "you motherfucker.....". Meanwhile Carnage and Scream are just happy to be there.

I wanted to like this so bad, either version, but both were a pain to play for me... the 1994 TAS was so much fun back then, and a 2D action platformer for the SNES and Genesis felt like the perfect idea. At least the 2000 title by Neversoft, though not a real adaptation, felt close enough to it and had Rino Romano as Spider-Man, the voice of the character in Spider-Man: Unlimited, a sort of "sequel" to the 1994 TAS. Still, I've never got very far in either version, I just lose interest because the controls feel awful.

Konami's double screen X-Men is better than any Spider-Man game
