They went all out with this one tech wise. High quality pre-rendered graphics with faux 3D perspective for background elements; also included a DOOM-like first person stage that was smooth as hell and 3D racing stage. Easily the most technologically advanced games of the 16-bit era.

I never beat the dog chase level at the end because the dog takes up half the screen and it's just tribal and error bullshit

I used to beat this game consistently.
Hardest level was the RC car overhead one

The Doom like stage was only so smooth because the top and bottom halves of the screen are mirrored.

I liked the top down RC car stages the most, I wish there was a whole game like that but there isn't one. (Yes, I know about Micro Machines and Rock & Roll Racing, not the same).

I think it's a pretty good licensed game which suffers from Battletoads syndrome. It changes genres very often and it's not as fleshed out as it should.

Wasn't this the same developer as Mickey Mania and Mr. Bones? All 3 play very similar and change gimmicks every level.

I like the concept, the music is amazing (especially the Saturn version), but it gives me horrible motion sickness whenever I play it. I think it's because the camera jerks around a lot.

I had the gameboy version as a kid. I liked it at the time but tried it on an emulator later on and realized it only ran at like 10fps, and still used the digitized sprites downgraded to about 20 pixels

I never had any issues with it though. It's also surprisingly good on an analog stick, I'm curious to try it on an arcade joystick, seems like it'd feel great.

I don't know how they did it, but this is the first game I played where the Sega Genesis version completely and totally mogs the Super Nintendo version. Was it a rushed multiplat port?
Yes, it maddened me that Toy Story 2 has the toys playing a knockoff SNES rather than a Genesis in the movie.

You might like the officially unofficial director's cut. It even got a shoutout in the Sonic Encyclopedia, so you could say it's unofficially official. Lead director made a ROMhack with an enhanced mode that adjusts the camera. The only issue with it I have is the director's cut mode locked the Chaos Emerald collection to one per zone, which is worse than the Saturn version having it per act (since Tails/Knuckles have the same Special Stages in that version), even though you can now unlock Super Sonic.

It's not a ROM hack, he has the source code, he just compiled it.

>>11785724
i also don't play these games because a cringe bible thumper worked on them and was also shilling a streamed emulation service where each frame of video exceeds the size of the entire ROM

I think it should still be classed as ROM hack. Making the distinction based on having the source code opens a can of worms, consider sonic1,2,3 have been fully dissembled and turned back into buildable source code. Most sonic ROM hacks besides the early ones would no longer be ROM hacks.
