I honestly have no idea why some people think this game was bad. I played through it multiple times as a teenager, and it was always fun, and I noticed new things each playthrough.
>>11787021 >A lot of people hate this game for its lack of ties to to the existing lore.
The "lore" or overall setting? I've yet to play it, does it have a similar emphasis of visiting areas like old temples and castles, green vegetation with cool blue waters, and a race similar to the Nali and their plight?
Reminder that the story of Unreal2 makes no sense if you didn't play the U1 expansion pack, because it's actually a sequel to Return To Na'Pali and not Unreal1.

By releasing the worst iteration of the engine and ending the single player campaign due to being complete shit.
I think you meant "killed." A common typo, the keys are next to each other. It's weird how often this happens on this board, it's like it's full of attention-starved fatsos.

I assume you mean UT2k4. That's the one with vehicles. But yes, UT2k4's Onslaught mode was the coolest shit. I lived to pancake people with the hovercraft, or clip them with the car that has extending blade arms.
I do prefer class-based combat though, having 3 distinct classes in XMP really increased the replayability IMO.

It felt like a step down in atmosphere and movement. It's not bad, but was a disappointment. Didn't delivery on a lot of promises. Iirc a lot of planned stuff was cut for earlier release.

I agree with the points here + the slow movement speed.
I am actually pleasantly surprised to see how much love for the game there is in this thread. I played it upon release and enjoyed it but in retrospect it didn't have the same magic as Unreal. Good on everyone here though for not jumping on some hate bandwagon
Is there any good reason why it was so different from the first game? The only explanation I can think of is that they were aiming for consoles, assumed that nobody played Unreal 1 there, and decided to reboot the entire thing.

They cut all the dialogue choices and such from Xbox. You can't walk around the ship, you just kinda teleport from conversation to conversation.

This could definitely be. As usual the weapon lineup had some cool features despite being very human centric. The 4 target rocket launcher was neat.
>boring and weak weapons >too linear >shit engine >unoriginal >too many chefs in the kitchen design >slow and dull movement >unmemorable or annoying enemies >unskippable cutscenes and tons of boring mission briefings >clichéd crew members to the point of being cringe >failed to deliver on many promises >huge disapointment for those who liked the original
Am I missing anything?
