>>11787869 (OP)Akuji and Tai fu both are superb, also PAL cover is better
>>11788084T'ai Fu is kind of a mess when the camera is too far removed and you're looking at ants. There are also a couple of annoying pixel jumps. But otherwise it's fine.
>>11788084Akuji has phantastic atmosphere and story.
Revenge is someting everybody can get behind, and "climbing out of hell" - or the afterlife - is always a good motivation for the character, you'd probably want to be somewhere else. Loses its spookiness in the later levels tho.
>>11788084Yeah, Akuji is pretty good so far, I actually like the 3D Gex games so this is just as good.
How did you find out about this game?
For me it was the demo level on the Gex disc.
Found it while browsing through the menu and got hooked. It's a good choice for a demo level.
>>11787869 (OP)I bought this game used from blockbuster for like 5$ but it was so scratched to hell it was unplayable. What did I miss out on anons?
>>11789707It's pretty much Gex 2/3 but with voodoo and a dark atmosphere, it's pretty good.
>>11789648>How did you find out about this game?I remember reading a spanish magazine and there was this full page advertisement of a jar filled with chicken eyes and fins. It was very disgusting, not related to the game at all, with the sole purpuse to generate controversy. I guess it kinda worked on me because it's the first thing I remember when Akuji comes to mind.
>>11789648Nitro Rad.
His review of the game sucks anyways.
>>11787869 (OP)>includes demos of soul reaver and tomb raider 3!they didn't have much faith for it, did they?
>>11787869 (OP)I love this game but I could never beat it..
always reached the end gate but needed more artifacts
>>11789707Play the demo on the Gex 3 CD and see if you like the level. It's a good example.
>>11787869 (OP)this was made by the soul reaver devs, right? i never realized how similar the visuals are
>>11793991Yes, Crystal Dynamics, the Gex people.
>>11789648i read about it on wikipedia on crystal dynamics' page
>>11787869 (OP)This game feels like a surreal nightmare, with each level getting stranger than the last.
>>11797219But losing its creepy atmosphere.
In the later levels it's basically climbing and jumping around on floating cubes.
>>11798424NTA but i beat it earlier today. This is a lil true but the final level is amazing. It's the ruins of a fleet of ships floating in space. The skybox is a bunch of nebulae. And there are new enemies that are weird lovecraftian aliens. Really really cool and creepy
Loved details like this mat with a corner thats hanging down the broken side of the ship
Akuji is excellent, aside from a few end-game locations. Loved the sound effects too.
I find it a bit weird and surprising how many suddenly praise the game.
I remember last time there was a discussion about Akuji the reception was more like lukewarm to bad.
there was that one guy playing it and asking if to continue, but he simply could not get warm with the game. Which is fine, tastes are different, but the full 180 here is suprising.
