I know it's not the PC version because that has no analog controls (a 3D platformer with 8-way digital, yuck), and I know it's not the PS2 version because that adds a bunch of filler garbage that just kills the pacing.

So it's either PSX, N64, or Dreamcast.

Use Ray2Fix with the GOG version, it adds modern controller support including analog controls

and i know you are retarded for saying that.
there is this thing called a controller, they usually have ANALOG sticks, plug one in and whoa! YOU CAN PLAY RAYMAN 2 THE GREAT ESCAPE ON PC WITH ANALOG CONTROLS!

Dreamcast is 60fps but all the animations are still 30fps. N64 has overall worse graphics and is locked at 30fps but at least the presentation is consistent. And the PSX version has cut content. It's a shame there's no perfect version of Rayman 2.

The levels it cuts are honestly some of the weaker ones, and I like the final boss fight in the PS1 version more. Nice voice acting too. A good version all around.

N64 is basically the PC version with faster loading times and sovlful music compression.
Dreamcast has the original-resolution textures and is the director's preferred version but as >>11788102 says it has a few changes, and not all for the better.
PS1/2 are so different that they may be worth a playthrough if you liked the original.

I could have sworn I have played Rayman 2 on PC with an analog controller. In fact I am 100% sure. Rayman 2 would be literally unplayable without analog.

I wonder if its a case of no documented support. Because I got it working. I don't quite recall how since this was back in like 2014. I know that game had internal functionality that was not exposed to the user. For example, it internally supports 32bit color, even though it only allows 16bit color. It was not difficult to patch the code to force 32bit color.

God this analog dpad sucks for 3D platformers. It's actually pretty good for racing games though, played a good bit of Rollcage with it.

3DS version is surprisingly good if you can tolerate a crap framerate here and there. The butterflies in the first level are demo-worthy of the 3D capabilities of the system
Was surprised to find out the Dreamcast version had fucking NORMAL MAPS recently.

i know you are already retarded for thinking the pc version has no analog support at all.
but you are double retarded because the game is actually easier on keyboard. i know because i beat it that way back in the day.
i could breeze through the final boss while my friend that was playing on n64 had a hard time beating it.

Dreamcast is the most faithful and feature complete representation of the original game since it's a straight port of the PC version but with native analog control support.

N64 was the first version of the game to come out and arguably the most soulful since it was the lead development platform.

PS1 version is technically impressive by PS1 standards and even has some bonus content even if the main levels are cut down sometimes.

DS version is based on the N64 version but it runs like ass and doesn't control well.

3DS version is based on the Dreamcast port and is generally pretty good.

I actually really like the PS2 version but it's so drastically different it's debatable whether it even counts.

My personal opinion would be Dreamcast > PC > 3DS > PS2 > N64 = PS1 > DS

Do not play the 3DS version.

It plays fine, at first, but there are numerous graphical glitches. Some of them are visible by even the second level of the game, possibly earlier. Near the end there is a level with rain and every rain drop that intersects with a sprite causes an alpha rendering issue and it's not subtle by any means. There's also an infamous bug that causes the secret final lum of the game to be unobtainable unless you do a glitch or something because several webs that are supposed to be bouncy are just regular platforms.

People complain about stuff like the subdued lighting, which is fair, and the framerate, but those issues I mentioned are much worse to me and it's a shame because it could have been one of the best, if not the best way to play the game. They rushed it so it could be a launch title without doing the proper testing and debugging.

I recommend either the PC or the DC version. I don't care much for the PS1 version but I believe it is the most unique version of the game.
