please don't meme that this game is actually good. it is like a 10 hour visual novel that you get the bad ending if you move incorrectly for more than 30 seconds at a time. It's a steaming pile of shit and whoever translated it has bad taste.

Not enough 2D beat em ups and the ones it does have are Japan only. It's a shame, the shmup and fighting game libraries are stacked.

I always saw it as a 3D NES, though there's 2D aswell which makes it an even more complete library, the only one that beats it is the PS2 I think, Sony used to be so damn good up until the PS3 and especially PS4/PS5.

The whole point of Playstation was to herald in the age of 3D.

Ofcourse ironically 2D games from the 90s have aged much more gracefully.

I never enjoyed the PS1 as much as everyone else for 2 reasons, I got my PS1 kinda early in mid 96 and it was a (modchipped) Japanese first wave consoles. It stopped working after around 2 years, the classic issue with the laser, and I never heard of the putting the console upside-down method, so I just accepted it stopped working.
And the other reason is I never got a memory card because I thought it was shitty that I had to buy another accessory to save, and anyway most of the games I played on PS1 were arcade style or short, or had password system, but I guess not having saves in 1996 was another reason to not enjoy the console as much.
Still I love it and over the years I playe many of its classic games and still keep discovering new games. But, I actually think Saturn+N64 combo is the definitive 5th gen experience. I have a bigger group of favorite games between these 2 consoles than that of PS1.

If you like Crash Bandicoot, and also like it its corridor/hallway 3D platformer style enough to play its clones, the PS1 is the by a long shot the GOAT. Donald Duck and Lilo & Stitch got the best ones, though Scooby Doo, Barbie and M&Ms weren't so bad too, any more Crash clones I've missed on PS1 or were these 5 it? I'm thinking of replaying Lilo & Stitch before watching the new film.

I would argue that the PS2 has a superior library, as it includes PS1 games. Most of my favorite games came out before the sticks were added.

It's a shame the final product is simply not very fun, because this is actually extremely ambitious for a PS1 game and some if it is technically very impressive
