I didn't outright throw it like that time 2005 freaked out and killed me after my first God mode clone section clear. I was standing too close to an edge and Kratos dropped down and fell during the cutscene

I'm past the fuckass Phoenix section and about to beat the Kraken. A ton of progress but I'm tired as hell now. This is the hardest game I've ever played

Yeah same I did this once and never again. By the end I was doing it out of pure stubborn spite and refusal to admit defeat. Kinda hated the game and the devs by the time it was over

Titan mode in general has multiple moments of absolute bullshit but the translator takes the cake because it's a fucking escort mission. They did not take this section into account when tweaking enemy damage scaling and just shrugged and decided it was the player's problem. It's one of the most poorly balanced sections of any game I've ever played.

Titan mode is actually not consistently bad and like 90% of it is a reasonable challenge but the worst 10% is so bad it makes it an unenjoyable experience overall.

The actual combat encounters are great and force you to interact with the game's intrinsic depth and more subtle mechanics, but areas that spam one annoying enemy and the translator are sheer artifical difficulty that demand you walk a tightrope in one specific way to make it through. I'll do a NG+ run eventually, because I suspect starting off with everything maxed will actually make this a balanced experience

At its worst Titan mode (and God mode in 1) exhibit the worst kind of cheesy difficulty where being skilled is mandatory but being skilled only gives you a chance to roll the dice and if things break badly for you you can get fucked even if you played well. It introduces an element of luck that doesn't belong.

Like, when I finally managed to save the translator I didn't think I played any better than I did the time before. Those teleporting assholes happened to teleport where I needed them to and a dog was in the right place for me to punt it at the right guy at the right time. You don't git gud. You had to git gud just to get there you just keep hacking away at it until the pieces align favorably. It's skill + chance and that's bullshit. It's not fucking gambling. If I've got the skill I should be able to determine the outcome by how I play and nothing else.

I didn't even try the meme difficulty setting in 3. If that's how they do things then that final Zeus fight can suck a dick. I don't need the aggravation

3 is balanced except for the very end which is extremely hard. There's thebClotho gauntlet-tier room immediately followed by the infamous fire cerberus+satyr room, then Zeus himself

I got past the gauntlet. Fucking brutal. I had to use degenerate strategies like running away and spamming STTT and the hammer wave attack, but I did it. This game's unique rage attacks are underrated. The infinite spin attack and cyclone melted through the last wave

It has cheese, but like just not stinger and grenading everything to death in DMC, there's a mix of intrinsic and extrinsic incentives to engage with all the game's mechanics. Everything you learn has a place

Fuck, those cutscenes look good.
I personally always get filtered in hard mode on the clone scene in Gow1 and the last Cerberus section in Gow3. And it is so infuriating that the games only offers to drop the game to easy and not the normal difficulty.

I had four distinct rage moments. I was just numb by the Lakhesis fight. At least I can go back and play with OP gear now, which might actually just be appropriate balance
