I just wish they had made Ninja Gaiden 4 for SNES/PCE/Genesis with Shinobi 3's presentation... Fucking sucks that the series sort of 'died' after 3, I know there was another home console game but it was for the Master System and it's just not the same

They don't have a whole lot in common gameplay-wise really. Personally I like Nigga Gaiden better than Revenge of Shinobi-style Shinobi, which too slow-paced and relies too much on memorization. Shinobi III would be my favorite overall though: perfect balance of fast yet precise action.

I haven't played it the whole way through and I've read mixed opinions of it, but it does look solid.

The original GG Shinobis are pretty interesting too with the multi-ninja mechanics.

Also the GB Ninja Gaiden is just a rebranded Shadow of the Ninja game and it's way less challenging, but it's fun and the music is fantastic.

You need read the books of Ashida Kim, one of the only known actual master ninjas. They were popular at the height of the so-called 'ninja craze'. They reveal many (but not all!) of the mysteries of the ninja.

The reality is, the life of a ninja was more spent just wearing disguises to gather Intel, being a slut to gather Intel, and maybe on an exciting day using some tricks to escape capture like breathing through bamboo straw while submerged in a giant pile of livestock shit or in a river. I like NG more I think even though the difficulty is a bit too high. Shinobi is also kinda fun but it's basically a cover shooter, it's kind of annoying to play. Whereas NG is just fun with how you jump around and shit. The arcade version of NG is ass though

I like the NES Ninja Gaiden games more than the genesis Shinobi games. Revenge of Shinobi really sucks and I hate that I have to put in a code to turn on 6 button mode in Shinobi 3.

The original PS2 Shinobi's better than all the other games in both franchises combined for me, though. I could never really get into the 3D Ninja Gaiden games.

ng is genuinely an ingenious gamification of the ninja premise even as janky as it can be. the way you need to move forward with unwavering discipline, any retreat being punished by chaos just feels perfect for the subject matter.

Honestly this is the only reason the rise of UFC makes any sense. It's enduring popularity makes sense because it's a fantasy for pseudo tough guys but a lot of it's "fans" are like NBA fans where they only watch highlights to talk shit on social media.

UFC started out as basically Bloodsport, where random martial arts people fought like tae kwon do vs sumo etc. As it got bigger, more money thus more serious as a means for celebrity and riches, people started literally mixing styles to find what was most efficient to win, and it became a full sport like any other where everyone is one part kickboxer one part wrestler or w/e

The 1990 movie for Shredder was like the biggest "glowup" a fictional character ever had. In the comics he was pretty much a nobody, just an intro villain. In the cartoon he was a giant doofus.
