Yeah Samus is pretty OP too. The bosses are the challenging bits but they're usually challenging because they have specific ways to beat them that aren't always immediately obvious. MP3 was like that a lot, some of the bosses were pretty hard but the game itself was really easy, even on hard mode. The atmosphere and exploration is great though so it makes up for it, for me anyway.

Yeah Halo captures a lot of feelings. Reuniting with the marines is a moment of triumph, but when they're all wiped out there's a strong sense of isolation. In the later half of the game when Cortana confirms you're the last one alive it's a haunting feeling. Isolated with whatever remains of a hostile alien force and nightmarish parasites treating your dead comrades as hosts.

FPSes involving military action often check those boxes, so that's how Halo and CoD became associated as dudebro games.

Super Metroid never had such an egregious case of retracing your steps with very little variety. Yes, revisiting old areas is an essential part of what makes Metroid what it is, but this particular instance simply has horrible pacing, and it's so unintuitive that they had to resort to using Ridley as a glorified quest marker to point the player in the right direction.
