Platforming in Half-Life was kino. Complaints about it amount to nothing more than a blatant skill issue, and shooters as a genre were overall worse off because of developers taking these plebian complaints into consideration.

>Platforming in Half-Life was kino

No it wasn't.

It handles markedly worse than it does in Quake - an impressive feat, considering it was built on top of quake code.

And even don't get me started on the utterly unintuitive handling of inputs when on ladders.

Correct. I'll never understand how people get fits about Half-Life's platforming, it's Quake movement but with some refined physics, the margins are generous as fuck.

Ladder input is the only janky part, but you get a feel for it soon enough.

It's probably not just a skill issue with many, but simple group think inflating the issue. I just have a hard time believing so many people struggle with something as simple as a few crouch-jumps.

It handled fine. Especially with the jump pack.
The big issue wasn't it existing - it was that the XEN levels had some specific areas where it wasn't clear what to fucking do, mostly the riding on stingrays and shit.. which is not a typical thing you'd do. Most of the platforming in XEN was okay.

Ladders aren't so bad, at least now. I don't recall if they patched them.

If anything the platforming was more accurate than the buggy as fuck shooting, which is still broken to this day. Go ahead and try shotgun and put it in someone's chest and ask why doing 2x60 blasts doesn't always kill an enemy with 50 health?

Xen is a pleb filter. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Interloper is a creative and well-designed chapter, and the alleged unfair difficulty spike just isn't there. Skill issue.
