1 & 2 are not that good and what's even worse is the PC remake was completely soulless
actually few days ago i tried that infamous 3DS spinoff and i tolerated it until i saw the laughable shitpost battle animations kek, if you played it you'll know what am talking about

warsong/langrisser 1 on the genesis is the only trpg i have ever beat. i fucking love that game, but i've never ally been able to "get" the rest of the series. mina/chris was my first vidya waifu

By god, i love Satoshi Urushihara's artstyle. I hope to copy his style one day. Anyways, sure. I've been itching to get into the original Langrisser games ever since i got into the mobile gacha game(surprised it's still around.).

I played it for about 3 years. It's unfortunate that it will forever carry the stigma of being a "mobile gacha" because it's actually really fucking good, it gets hard as balls, you actually have to strategize. Summarised stories from all Langrisser games, great music, it's not Urushihara's art but still close enough, very challenging end-game, etc. Never spent a dime and got everything I wanted. I just hope that when the end comes, they'll sell an offline version of it.

PS: yeah, not retro. I don't care.

Langrisser III pretty much killed the series.
The devs became so scared of trying new things after Langrisser III that the series stagnated while trying to play safe and recapture the Langrisser II's lightning in a bottle.
Langrisser IV was way too behind the curve by the time it was released, having even less content than Langrisser II, and Langrisser V instead of being a final attempt to evolve the series was just a boring farewell that played by the book.

It's no Final Fantasy Tactics, but still pretty good if you give it some time. A lot more complication, as there are a lot of generic units that work better around their generals.

Growlanser plays more like an rts. Like you issie commands and then the game plays in real time as all units move and act near simultaneously.
Growlanser is more like an RPG with rts/srpg battles.
Langrisser is more FE like with chapters.

You take that back. It is the best game on the original Playstation to me, ergo it is the best game on any Playstation system. By comparison to the Langrisser games, it has a better flow to the combat, but it is smaller in scope.
