>Can remakes surpass originals?
Yes, but not the impressions, memories, attachments I may have for the originals.

I almost always recommend remakes to someone who hasn't played the original, even if I think the original is better. Because I recognize my bias.

I like the RE1 remake, but it doesnโ€™t replace the original
Not because itโ€™s not as good, but simply because itโ€™s not the same game

If the original game is deeply flawed and the remake patches things up, it might. RE1 isn't deeply flawed, and this remake doesn't even address any of the few problems it does have.

If you ask me the FFXII remaster on PS4 is significantly better than the vanilla PS2 version.

It looks better, is formatted for widescreen, has some qol upgrades, has a remixed score but lets you use the original if you want, and eliminates the retarded zodiac spear conditions It's all improvements with no downside. Although you could argue it's not a remake, just a best case remaster.

>Can remakes surpass originals?
No and I wish people would stop doing remakes of both movies and games. For nearly 100 years we as a species have been stick on a loop remaking stuff like the wizzard of OZ, the fouur feathers, the 29 steps etc etc and now resident evil, silent hill etc. They remade psycho. All this shit is due to a quirk in US copyright law that means you can effectvely extend copyright forever as long as you keep making shitty remakes. If it makes some money as a side effect that's probably a benifit plus the marketing is easy as they is already a fanbase. Its fucking garbage though. I OWN all the fucking ORIGINALS. I am not buying your fucking remakes of shit that I own. I own afred hitchocks psycho, I am not buying the remake by gus van sant. Graphics improvements have been so marginal in the last decade that's it's irrelevent that maybe they look better (often that's very debatable), what made space invaders great was the gameplay, the graphics are icons. No one fucking remembers the taito remakes of space invaders, they just remember space invaders,

Remakes=mediocrity and are a symptom of copyright law and risk adversity, stagnation and lack of talent.

It's bad because you have to choose classes at the start. The great thing about FF12 is you could experiment with what you want your party members to be. In the remaster you are made to choose that at the start which doesn't make any sense

Weird. It's as if you believe they were made for you and you're defying them by not buying.

It's possible but they only remake things that were already good in the first release.
But remakes expose the staggering amount of gamers who view all games as conditionally disposable while also splitting the communities between remake consumers and people with taste. I remember when RE4 was talked about as a timeless game. Then the remake came in. I had to look something up for Silent Hill 2 recently and it was continuously annoying to get results that only apply to things in the remake.
In retrospect, I should've been much harder on REmake and RE2 2019.

Me too. The control in Mario 2 is more tight, less slippery feeling. It's hard to go back to the original after playing All Stars.

Of course they can, but there's a better chance of this happening if the original team is involved

Fully eclipses the original game. Same can be said about PSX Tales of Phantasia vs the SFC version too

Took a dog shit arcade game and infused it with that M2 magic and turned it into something not necessarily great but certainly passable and a complete improvement over the original

You can change license boards as soon as you access the clan hall, which is pretty early in the game and you get all your license points back so you lose nothing by changing jobs. You can experiment all you want

I see, I didn't know that. I'll assume it's pretty easy to experiment then. If that's the case, then maybe I accept the rerelease then

Resident Evil Remake is in most ways worse than the original PS1 game.

Picrel makes the Famicom version obsolete
